HPR ammo caused a KB
I don't know if any of you guys use HPR ammo or not, I'd never even heard of them till yesterday. I was reading threads over at TOS and they have a thread going over there where it looks like HPR ammo caused a KB to a Daniel Defense range rifle so I figured I would give you guys a heads up.
Here's one of the pics from that thread....
ouch!

Squib?

That was the first thing I thought of when I was reading the thread.
The inexperienced shooter would not admit to hand cycling the weapon after a shot was taken though and since a squib doesn't usually fully cycle the weapon, or at least not enough to reload a live round, the guy is not 100% sure what actually happened but it does seem ammo related regardless.
Just figured I'd give the members here a heads up. I'll post a lot number if and when it gets posted over there.
I was going to point out that they make new and remanufactured ammo, but that has nothing to do with the cases.
Is it possible there was a defect in the barrel steel

I think it even before I see it.

If you want to be entertained here is teh stupidest review I have ever seen. They must have paid this guy to do the review. Pay extra attention to his accuracy analysis and on his comments on feeding.

He contradicts himself, first the 4X doesn't give you a good site picture at 100yrds then later it does.
Guess he was trying to redeem himself to the Leatherwood company to keep the free scopes coming.
In reading through the 5 pages of threads on the other forum –– it doesn't sound like an ammo issue.
Squib loads in rifle loads are difficult on commercial machines that have multiple powder drop stations. If a station is missed that round is still moving at a decent speed to fire and exit (not a squib).
The gun was used as a Rental at an indoor range. Assault & Automatic rifles may see upwards of 10,000 rounds a week in a place like that. What's the barrel life of this rifle??? How often is it cleaned? Seems to me that issue could have been the metallurgy & wear of the barrel combined with being run extra hot and a non-experienced shooter. In that scenario you've got yourself a recipe of what the picture is.

Could it have been the barrel, maybe but, seriously doubtful.
I've seen videos of people running AR barrels in FA one 30rnd mag after another until the gas tune melted and the barrel didn't do that so I don't think it was heat related. Besides if you had read the whole thread you would see where the guy said the shooter was on his first thirty round mag when this happened and the rifle was SA not FA so doubt much heat was built up.

Thanks. HPR aka High Precision Range Ammunition.
Vid was uploaded June 22, 2010. "I have a Leatherwood M1000 ART-series scope coming and I will be doing some more accuracy reviews with the .223."
I took a look and didn't see another .223 ammo review by him...
Preferably one that includes on-camera chrono readings...
I miss Molon...
Quick update, the OP in the other thread at TOS posted the lot number of the ammo in case any one has any.
.....lot number was 2231122811 inspected by
#13. We have no updates from either manufacturer yet. will respond in
this thread when that time comes.
I think I lost a few IQ points watching that video, what a schuck!

Did I miss something? Where did Molon go?
I've used HPR 75 grain OTM ammo in both of my AR's. No problems of any sort.
