M855 is the military spec. The X is added when lake city production is sold commercially under the Federal brand.

No one knows for sure what the process is for determining what ammo will be sold as XM193 or XM855. Perhaps just left over, or perhaps a lot that had a minor issue. If a lot has real issues it would also be noted with PD (XM193PD) PD is still safe to shoot though.

What's funny is all the sellers on the EE selling "real deal" M855 and not XM855.

I dont care for Lake city M855

Even though I have a few cans held back

I find Santa Barbra and S&B SS109 to be FAR More accurate than My Lake City M855
NON PD and IMI M855

This is exactly why one needs to test ammo thru your own rifle, I have found IMI M855 00-02 manufactue ,To group better than S&B, in fact IMI M855 has been more accurate throught my AR's , than any other M855 or SS109 load...haven't crono any but its "feels" hotter also

well XM is minor error stuff that does not go to the military. Xm has to little sealer or lack of any, dented casings ETC, real m855 is what the troops and others get no errors.

im not sure about PD ive never bought any but im guessing its XM sold to police departments for practice ammo

M855 and M193 are 2 different bullets

so the rejects get sold as XM855 and XM193

M855 is a 62 grain "penetrator" piece of steel in the bullet
M193 is a 55 grain boat tail bullet with no steel in it
