4.5" or 5.5" 22lr barrel??

I'm looking to build a 22lr dedicated upper for my SBR. I'm mainly looking to shoot bulk blazer or federal, but the question is will they stay subsonic in a 5.5" barrel!, or do I need to step it down to 4.5"?

I have a can on the way so I'm looking to use that as well.

Also, does anyone sell barrels that short or would I need to buy the cmmg 7.5" and have it cut down? I'm trying to stay on a budget and this will be used for plinking at <50yds.

For the faster bulk ammo you want SHORT,,,, so 4.5" . Redtazdog here on the forum could probably hook you up
perfect as he's the super short barrel Guru IMHO....

Lose the Federal thoughts and go Winchester 333 / 555 at the least. Better reliability as far as I'm concerned....
Best ammo is still CCI Standard Velocity though... Costs more.

I've never had good luck with the 333/555 bulk. In any of my 5 rimfire guns, so i refuse to buy them anymore.

I usually go with blazer bulk. On their website they list pistol as ~1060fps. Obviously it doesn't state barrel length or anything like that. I'm sure std dev is around 60-70fps.

Also it seems to be cheaper to buy a cmmg upper and just have the barrel cut down than to piece together an upper. All I'd do it switch the hand guard to a pistol length.

And do M&P 15-22 mags work? I've got quite a few of them laying around.

Im using a. 4.5 and it works great and honestly if i were to do it again i would buy a cmmg complete upper and cut down just to save money
