 New 9mm upper questions

I just put together a 7” 9mm upper. The lower is set up as a pistol until my SBR tax stamp arrives.

I used a stainless barrel from JSE, a DPMS low-pro receiver, a CMMG bolt and a standard charging handle. Have a VM High-Tech mag block with Uzi mags. Starting with a stock carbine buffer & spring.

I put the first 150 rounds thru her last night. Ran like a champ, zero failures.

My two questions are:

The brass gets thrown three shooting tables away. And when rapid firing, the recoil is petty noticeable. Will a spacer (or quarters) help the brass issue?

I am running a set of KNS pins to protect the (future) SBR lower. It is not full auto. Do I need to worry about the recoil hammering the lower?

Is a special 9mm buffer worth it? What will it bring to the table. As I said, it runs fine now.

I have a friend who might be able to make me a hard nylon spacer once I determine the length I need.

Thanks

Vic

I've got a stock RRA 9mm rifle. I got the Spike's buffer spacer and KNS pins and put both in. Way i figured it, it's cheap insurance.

Go with the spikes 9mm buffer set up.

Jason,

Did you use your stock carbine spring?

The two have nothing to do with each other. The spacer is to protect the bolt catch. The idea is if you limit the amount of rearward travel the bolt has it will limit the amount impact on the bolt catch after the last round is fired.

So the heavy buffer solves the brass flinging issue?

What would stop me from taking a standard buffer, dumping the weights and filling it with bullet casting lead? Anyone ever try this?

Looks like the ST-02 buffer weights 4 oz and the stainless steel 9mm buffer from spikes weights 8.5 oz.

I rigged a leather flap that mounts on the carry handle and hangs over the E-port with the notion of batting down brass. It does a decent job, leaving most of it at my feet.
There's still a little fine tuning to do.
My carbine is factory Colt, with the heavy bolt and buffer. It still whales the brass a fer piece.

Just so you know, the Spikes 9mm buffer actually only weighs 7.5oz - even though they advertise it at 8.5oz. I don't sound bitter, do I?

Just ordered a 9mm custom upper from JSE along with their 9mm buffer and anti-backoff kit for the pins.
Looked at the promag magwell adapter. Not interest in plastic or plastic mags. HAve a bud that tried to go cheap and blew his scores at the matches almost every time.
Hate to blow the bucks, but am gonna go with the Hahn and the metalform mags.
44mag.com has some mags and will try them out.
Will probably get the stuff in a couple of weeks. Will try to post how it turns out.
