A2 midlength to trust my life too

I am interested in a a2 style midlength upper. I want it to be my go to gun. Something I can trust my life to if needed. I was looking at the RRA and Armalite. I plan on putting a troy drop in rail on it and few accessories for the rail, but thats it. Reliability being the #1 thing I am looking for. Do either have m4 feed ramps? I do wish they had a faster twist, but i can do 1in 9. Any other recommendations.

Trust comes from verification, not from a brand, as any manufacturer will put out a stinker every once in a while.

You need to make sure your rifle runs with your ammo in your mags.

obviously there have to be a few companies that generally make better rifles that others. Is there a big difference between armalite or rra? I wish BCM made A2 models.

Also i know this one is not an A2 but, i like the idea of it. Are there any opinions on the RRA UTE2. i dont think I've heard any opinions, pictures, reviews. I like that it has the traditional a2 style rear sight assembly, but is easier to mount Red dots on. I guess they aren't very popular. I'm sure they aren't easy to resale. But i don't like to sale my firearms.

I love my A2 (and my A1) very much. My Colt HBAR A2 is my favorite shooter in fact. I just love the way it feels solid and the way it shoots. But, if I were getting a gun for the sole purpose of defense / shtf, I'd probably get a Colt 6920 and be done with it... for the same reasons the military and everyone else does. Lighter, bulletproof, M4 adjustable design, and the option to use an optic on the flattop or the A2 carry handle. They are also aggressively priced right now around $950, and for what it would cost you to build (close to that) I just don't think you'd end up with the same quality of rifle.

All that said, I actually bought a 6940. Which is stupid accurate and a truly awesome piece of kit. But in looking back, the proprietary barrel does put me off a little, and if I had to do over, I'd get a 6920. Which again, I think you can't beat for the price and what you get. My $0.02.

If you are certain you want an A2, then why not just go rifle length as you have so many more options (new and used) and most likely cheaper?

If I were you I'd be very tempted by a Colt 6520. I know it's not a mid-length, but it is a 16" A2 lightweight carbine. I've got a 6520 complete upper on an RRA lower and I love it!

you could just buy a (insert reputable brand) flat top midlength upper of your choice, and then swap out the receiver for an A2. i'm sure there are plenty of people on the EE who would trade your flat top for a nice A2 upper receiver. and if the A2 upper doesn't have m4 feed ramps, those are really easy to add.

I built my son a midlength carbine from a RRA SS barrelled upper. I had ADCO trim some under the handguards to shave some weight and replaced the flat top upper with an A2. The chrome BCG has not given me any reason to doubt it so far and it has been 100% reliable with XM193.

oh snap, i'm building almost the same set up right now. only difference is i have a palmeto light weight 16 in middy steel barrel coming. al the same magpul goodies on an A2 upper. how does that thing handle? A2 is a good base for a k.i.s.s. rifle, and keeping with the thread, i believe simple is a good start toward reliable.

I bought an Armalite ML upper (A2). It is a mid-weight barrel, but weighs about the same as a GI A2. Nice barrel. No complaints. I used a BMC bolt and Stag lower, Cave Arms A1stock and handguard. M4 cuts. Pretty basic but accurate. Sights are perfectly timed. Always a good sign. I am sure you could put a BMC barrel on an A2 upper and be fine, too. But I would get another Armalite.

As stated it's not mid length but if A-2 is desired a 6520 Colt is hard to beat and it's 1-7. Great LW well balanced carbine for SHTF if ever necessary. Think I'd personally go with a PSA, quality for the coins in a flat top if mid length was my only option and use an A-3 carry handle or better BUIS. Would make upgrading very easy in the future. I've never personally had a malfunction with an AR in many rds but some seem to be more accurate than others. 1-7 will handle most any ammo fairly well also. Ice cream comes in different flavors for a reason.

I kind of regretted getting the barrel reprofiled because it is too light. It is fine for my 11 year old son to shoot offhand, but a little light up front for my taste. It is easy to manuver and is quite accurate. It now has a suppressor mount and wears a can.

I have an RRA a2 lower with the 2 stage trigger i was gonna put it on for now. Later on I will get another RRA lower with 2 stage trigger but get the collapsible stock . I guess right now i am leaning toward the armalite. I iwll try some 75s but if not then try some 69smk

If ya don't mind building on your lower or have a complete lower already, the Del-Ton 16" Midlength HBAR 1-7" upper is nice

I think realistly i am leaning more towards the Armalite, but i still am considierng the RRA. The only real difference I know of is armalite has m4 feed ramps. Armalite claims there rifles are parts are the best.
Ive heard of delton, but i dont know enough about them to buy one to trust my life too. Ive just heard of them being more cheaper quality.

I'm a big fan of this A2/Middie/fixed butt set-up. My ArmaLite is just like the one pictures above except for the green furniture.
She's a super shooter, and untra reliable too.
