Help me ID and Value This Mid 80s Colt A1/A2 Hybrid?
Local gunshop is selling a Colt A1/A2 clone that they claim is from the mid 80s. Here are a few pics, though I have many more.
Does anyone here know anything about this rifle? Able to ID it, tell any info about it? As you can see it has the A2 furniture and GI profile 1-7 twist barrel with an A1 upper (with the round FA).
How much is it worth conservatively? And by that I mean everyone likes to inflate the value of their guns, but realistically, what would something sell for readily on the open market. That is my determination of value!!
If you want to see any other pics, etc I would be happy to help with that! Thank you!
$800 or so, worth more in a Ban State like NY and CT I believe.
Interesting..... I hardly see Colts in no ban A2 HBAR configuration for $800, nevermind the A1 / A2 clone with GI profile barrel from the factory. In fact, I have never seen a rifle in this configuration hit the EE. Have you seen them come up for sale from time to time?
With that said, I have no doubts that if that rifle were listed for sale in the EE for $800, it would sell quickly with no trouble.
The problem is, since Colt started making the lowers with the 0.25" GI Pivot Pin, the older screw-type aren't that desirable. Most ppl want the GI spec latest greatest uber=carbine version. Large hole C7-style A1 upper is cool.
In Ban states, I think those Colt pre-ban lowers can go for about $600 by themselves but the economy has cooled the market. Figure perhaps $600 lower, $225 for the barrel, $175 bolt carrier assy if it isn't shaved, maybe $100 for the stripped upper because its the large pivot.
Its a nice rifle, simple sights, 1/7 for heavier bullets, all Colt and chrome-lined.
Do you have the box and acc for it?
Here's same rifle on GB, priced at $2000 with Colt-marked leather match sling and bayonet, who knows how long it has been posted

Maybe price it at $1100, accept $900?
I am not familiar with the old screw type large pin rifles. How cumbersome are they?
Colt A1 upper and lower, teardrop forward assist, the retro guys would love it for parts if it wasn't for the large takedown pin.
It has an A1 lower? Looks like an A2 to me.

it lacks a2 reinforcements, and lacks the magazine release fence. It doesn't look particularly a2 anywhere other than the rollmarks.
What do you think it is worth?

New LE Colts are at the $1000 range now, I would say $750 - $850 would be a good price for the Sporter II. It's pre-ban if you live in a pre-ban state.
Mine has a black finished buffer with a orange tip on it and the round forward assist button. Sporter II's use mil-spec pins and have no sear block.
What is the barrel profile on the colt sporter II carbine? Is it as thin, thinner, or thicker than the bushmaster superlight barrels?
Colt R6401, there was a Colt ad featuring this rifle back when it was new. I bought mine a couple years ago for $850. Fun rifle, shoots anything I put into it.
Edit: The ad is in the link that was posted a couple posts above.
I built an almost exact clone to this rifle but the receivers are black and I used a slipring instead of a delta ring. So, yeah I dig em....

This is mine, all original except for the KNS pins. Barrel profile is just like a superlight from bushmaster. I can get a pic without HG's if you want.

Sure, I would love a picture without handguards. How much does the rifle weigh empty? It must be slightly lighter than the 6520 due to the A1 upper.
