Here she is complete, my FN M16A2, extreme cloning...........Lots of Pics....
She has been done since June, but I have been so busy that I haven't been able to post this until now. My goal was to create an authentic FN clone that was similar to what I carried in the Marines. I also wanted a gray rifle and prefer the look better. All parts are new except for the furniture. I saw the post where Jcrowl finished something similar recently, but in black. Sorry, I don't have a blue couch....
Semper Fi....
Specs:
FN Upper Receiver (Orginally black, re-anodized gray by Victor as US Anodizing along with the charging handle, delta ring, and trigger guard)
FN gov't Barrel cage code 3S679
FN BCG
McKay Gray Lower, laser engraved with FN Logo, gov't markings, 3rd pin, and BURST
Daniel Defense LPK, minus the magpul trigger guard and selector. Modified selector was from Sarco. The BURST position shoots SEMI only...
Black used GI Stock and handguards from the Pay it forward..... :)
Swapped the Colt pistol grip off of my 6920. (It's got a flatter gray tone to it.)
Issue sling that I forgot to give back :)
Worn but very functional PreBan OKay 30 rd magazine
Victor did an awesome job at matching the upper with the gray lower and Gordon's engraving work speaks for itself. I shot it recently at my house and it functioned flawlessly.
Very nice rifle. I too have a cloned A2...really like them.
What is the significance of the 'cage code'? I've heard the term but don't know what it refers too.

Did you do a Colt or FN clone?
Cage Code:
The Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) code is a five-character ID number used extensively within the federal government. The CAGE Code System provides a standardized method of identifying a given facility at a specific location. The Defense Logistics Information Service (DLIS), who administers the CAGE Code system, has a CAGE Code search feature online that will help to determine if a code is currently assigned to an organization. The CAGE request process is incorporated into the CCR registration. Therefore, any organization or company not listed in the CAGE database will be assigned a CAGE Code during the processing of CCR registration. The CCR website is http://www.ccr.gov.
FN Cage Code
Basically it's FN Identification mark.....
Sounds like a good case for copyright infringement if you ask me.
Other than that, looks pretty slick.
Well, my A2 is sort of a bastardized actually. The kit came from SARCO.
I do have another rifle using FN barrels but they don't have the cage code on them, only FNMI, caliber, etc. I was just curious as to what that was.
My rifles

Looks great! You have me beat, I didn't get the false sear hole. Interesting, my receiver was originally gray and Victor reanodized it to black. Did Ident do the markings for you? Is that the Toolcraft Bolt Carrier? I know they make them for FN.
Yes, that's a toolcraft Bolt Carrier.......Ident did the markings.....I really like the gray rifles. I think I am going to do a gray Colt A2 build next, same as this FN one, except all Colt.....
Nice heater.
I like it!
Did I miss how using the FN logo isn't a trademark violation?

Its the same as the retro folks using the colt logo and pony.
If I recall, it can be done as long as the owner is not doing so for sale or profit, just for collection purposes.

exactly. Also even though it looks like the logo....there is variation. Ident does it this way on purpose. At ease.

Sounds good enough for me.
Exactly, there is a variation in the logo. And yes it is for collection purposes only....Not sure why some guys get all bent out of shape over something that is not theirs...........

I don't care what you do with your rifle, just what gets posted on the site.
That was my point, i appreciate you clarifying things after being accused of possible copyright infringment by someone in their post.
Very nice looking FN A2 clone. My A2 has an FNMI 1/7 barrel mounted on a Colt A2 upper. I have been tempted many times to buy an FN upper from a member on the EE for some time and just might do that some day.

Does anyone have any history or pics on the gray FN A2 rifles? I honestly can't remember what my rifle was when I was in, if it was black or gray. Was it just the early FN A2's that were gray? I hear the term FN gray, and Jcrowl said his upper receiver was gray before he re-annodized it black. How close is the FN gray to the rifle I created? Did FN make their lowers match in gray also?
I have seen some FN A4 rifles that are a different shade of black that look almost purple, and thought that maybe FN gray.
Anyone who has any info on this would be greatly appreciated.
The FN A2 upper that I am using (according to Victors color chart) is a preban grey. I have seen some FN uppers that are light grey like Colts. The color change is due to a lot of factors. Anodizing is an organic process and certain colors do certain things. The blue hue that you see on the receivers is due to repeated sun exposure. Wear also has an effect on the anodizing.

Examples of thier services
Great looking A2. Anyone have a source for that sling?
Looks fantastic. I wonder though if a peel washer would be more appropriate behind the flash supressor.

they get bent out of shape because they're jealous that you have something that they want but are too afraid to have done
Excellent clone. It doesn't have that vismod feel most AR15's have. Look like one Joe tentpeg set up against a tree while donning his ruck. Nice...
gotta' love 'dem gray a2's

Great looking A2. Anyone have a source for that sling?
Armalite has them for $10.
Nice build.
I built an A2 type originally using a Doublestar 20" upper, but it drove me crazy not having a chrome lined 1/7 barrel, so I broke down an bought a complete 20" FN upper. It sits on a Doublestar lower, but it's close enough for me since it doesn't have a happy switch.
My M-16A2 in the Corps was a Colt, but other than quals and JOB crap, it stayed in the armory...The life of an airwinger!!
I did happen to luck out an get a sling from the armory before I got out, and picked up a GI butt stock free from a guy after I got out...
