Recommendations on an A2 rifle?
I figured I'd post this here.
Looking into a an A2 Gov't profile rifle. Under 21 so a stripped lower is out. No idea if non-stripped lowers are good to go.
Just looking for ideas on complete rifles by manufacturer or on ideas to build off of.
Buy a Colt 6601 model - either Sporter or Match Target HBAR. They're old, A2, HBAR and don't sell well, and usually sell cheap. Particularly if you can find a local dealer with one that got "left behind" in the carbine craze. You can probably wheel and deal.
Sell the HBAR - use the money to buy a NOS USGI A2 barrel - they're still plentiful enough and unpopular enough to be relatively cheap - do it quick, before they become like A1 barrels that used to be nearly impossible to give away and now command prices higher than stainless SPR barrels.
At the end of this, you'll be left with probably an all Colt, or at least mostly Colt A2 with a mil-spec barrel. No other work needed.
That's what I did, bought a new 6601 and installed a Colt A2 gov't profile barrel assemby. Bud's has them in stock
About 6 months back that's what I did... got a 6601. I love it. It is a beautiful weapon. My dealer said not to ask for another one, cause they don't have anymore and aren't making them anymore. So, if you find one, you should get it.
But to disagree with the above, Im not replacing the HBAR, Im leaving it as-is until i shoot the barrel out, then I'll probably put a gvt profile on there... no reason to not use the great barrel that comes with it... and it's a little PT while your at it.
