I have this AR15, it was built back in the mid 90's. I know it has a Colt barrel, 1:9 twist, does not appear to be chrome lined (it's clean and not so shiny), and an EA (Essential Arms ) lower, but I am stumped as to what the other parts manufacturers might be, especially the upper and charging handle. The Bolt carrier is stamped SE in a circle on the left side.
As you can see from the pics, there is also a color difference between upper and lower, and there is a older style forward assist plunger. Can anyone help shed some light on this for me?
A) Where I might find stampings or what not on the other parts to help identify who made what? There is nothing I can see on the upper.
B) I don't recall too many parts suppliers from back then, not like now with one on every corner. Could parts have only come from one or three sources?
C) The only parts I added are the Dlask Tac Latch - www.dlaskarms.com, Brownells Scope Riser, and sling swivel stud to the handguard to mount the bipod. Everything else is original to the build.
Appreciate any help you guys can provide.
Thanks,
HTNS
Your upper receiver used to be a 603 M16A1 receiver. Someone cut off the carry handle and added the rail. If you look directly under the rail, you can see what's left of the carry handle opening. This explains the teardrop (old style) forward assist. Judging from the color and the fact that I can't make out any proof marks forward of the ejection port, the receiver looks like a Martin Marietta M16A1 replacement receiver.
Here's what your upper receiver used to look like; an M16A1 receiver (not my photo):

Thank you so much. Sometimes I love the internet! Do you or anyone else out there have have any ideas on the bolt?

You're welcome.

I can't help with anything else, though. All I know is what I mentioned about your upper receiver, and that your lower receiver is an early cast Essential Arms receiver (receivers these days are forged).
Definitely a M-16A1 upper with carry handle cut off and railed pinned. The lower is an early 80s EA cast lower. The BCG is made by Smith Enterprises.
Is the LPK made up if demilled M-16 parts? I have a Sendra lower from this same period. It has a M-16 selector, a hammer with the spur cut off and a disconnector with the tail removed.
I'd say the FF Tube was added in the 90s
Thanks for the last little details. Yes you're right about the free float tube. The rifle was put together in the 90's.
Thank you for your assistance. I'm trying to sell it, but no takers so far. I think the age is scaring people off, even though it's been a safe queen most of it's life.
It does not have all the latest tacticool parts and furniture, it shoots nice. Even at $875 no takers.
Thanks again for the information, very helpful.

How would you get it through Customs? I might be interested in the lower only. Where abouts in Ont?
That's how flat tops were made back then. The free float tube was cutting edge stuff when it first appeared.
I haven't seen a rifle like yours in a long time. You have an interesting period piece there.
E.T.A.
I wish I would have saved some issues of Shotgun News from back then with the adds from various shops offering the flat top conversion.
Pretty exciting times.
