School me; Original Colt 3x20 carry handle scope

Traded from a friend of mine for this because he wanted a set of Trijicon tritium sights for an AR he has. He had 2 of these scopes and I really wanted one for the retro look, and there's something about the smaller objective of these scopes I like.

It is an Original US made.

(No, it's not a 7.62 AR...)

So, here's the question; Sight in procedure. At what distance do I sight this thing in at? I tried 25 yards and got it hitting in the 10 and X rings; but, then I moved back to 100 yards on a benchrest and it hits WAYYY too high.

So school me in this retro optic. (I didn't get a manual)

Oh, and bonus question... What's it valued at?

Thanks in advance!

remove the "hat" cap from the elevation turret, use a coin to adjust elevation.
reinstall hat cap when done :)

lol Yes, I got that far.

What I'm wanting to know is the "official" distance that I need to sight this thing in.

Although since the 25 meter/ 27 yard zero dictates that if you zero at 25m/27y you should hit zero at 300 meters; maybe I should've turned the compensation turret to 300 instead of 1 to 200?

Link to the "manual" that came with later ones.
Should give you the general idea.

The scope's BDC is calibrated for 55 grain ammo shot from a 20 inch barrel with 1/12 twist.

I have one just like that, in similar condition, except without the duplex crosshairs. It is an early Japanese scope.

L to R: Made in USA, early Japanese, later Japanese and even later Japanese:

Hmm; he said it was US made, but I'll take it anyway.

Thinking about registering for SBR status and getting an XM177 11.5" barrel. Along with a 4 position CAR stock, some 20 rounders, and a "repro" A1 grip.

Would be cool to also stumble upon some XM177 triangular handguards.

It wouldn't be a true Colt however, since it is a Bushmaster tho... and the upper has forward assist and brass deflector.

Oh, and a M6 bayonet for the icing on the cake.

Sounds like a fun rifle, although what you REALLY need to do is:
1. Get a lower from NodakSpud to be period correct
2. Keep your eyes on the EE for an aluminum CAR stock with period correct 2 position buffer tube
3. 20 rounders - you will find plenty of those
4. Again watch the EE for period correct colt upper, then use the one you have for a C7 build
5. Modify rifle handguards if you really want triangular ones
6. Find an old A1 grip... again - lots on the EE

Then... Post lots of pics!
Welcome to retro, where misery loves company!

Thanks mate!

Although this might be a noobish question; what is EE? I go on gun broker a lot, but what is EE?

But anyhow; I love retro's over tacti-cool AR's. Simple works, and retro's have more character.

Off to work! All this looks like it's gonna cost a pretty damn shiny penny!

EE is the equipment exchange on ar15.com.
gun broker is ok, but you can find a lot more parts on EE
And you don't have to bid on anything.
I've got most of my parts from there and most of the sellers are the same
Folks that frequent this forum.a good bunch of people
