A local gunshop has a fairly early SP1 for sale. Serial# 11934. No trapdoor buttplate. Drain hole buffer tube screw. Drain hole hand guards. Joined MP proof between fsb legs. No indicator of twist rate on front of barrel. Three prong fh. Early bend stainless gas tube. Triangle proof on receiver but no C in square. They're asking $2500 with three mags. A real safe queen.

Sounds like a nice one. Definately on the high side but one can always negotiate. What buffer and BCG are in it? Doubt seriously if it's going anywhere at that price but some sellers get lucky. Problem with that price is you're gonna come off insulting if you offer something more realistic. Know of two in the $1800ish range that haven't sold in almost two yrs now but they are probably only very good conditition rating in my opinion. Low mileage well maintained but used with a little internal wear. Basically should be on GB to get huge coins.

Yeah, I was only reporting it for information purposes. I don't have those kinds of coins. I'll be content with my '73 vintage for a third that price. There was tie wrap through the ejection port/magwell. The counter guys were all busy so I didn't get to see the internals. I'll try to get back and check. Judging by the external shape, I'd say this has had very few if any rounds down the pipe.

Nothing insulting about offering what you think something is worth. If they don't want to accept they say "no". I bought my house for 90K less than the listing price. I didn't think charm school lessons should apply.

Yeah, there's a right way and a wrong way to arrive at a sale price. I get a kick out of the clowns walking the aisles at the gun shows, loudly claiming that a table holder has to be crazy, on crack, etc. to ask whatever price on whatever. If I don't like a price, I don't insult the owner. I ask if there is any room to negotiate. If no, I move on. If yes, we talk. Ninety five percent of the used guns at shows have some wiggle room.

A member contacted me about purchasing an excellent condition SP-1. I had to remove their user name due to a full inbox and don't remember who it was.. There is one on GB it's definately not mine supposedly 1980 and brand new #283971539. Member never specified on mfg dating but said he was having a problem finding one. This thread is for an early model. This one is not early but member didn't specify and it's priced less than the one's I know of. Not the best price but definately not the worst. If NIB it's probably fair market value.

Hmm. Did SP1s came out of the box with an Accu-wedge installed?

Not to denigrate the seller whatsoever, but I've noticed his GB ads are quite precise. When he says that it comes with what's shown, don't assume that there's anything more than that––like a magazine, or the box. (Most people buying a "NIB" rifle are hoping for the "B".) I certainly don't believe he'd misrepresent anything, but if you have specific questions, be sure to get them answered before bidding.

I recently bought an old .22 trainer from him. Photos were limited and I didn't ask many questions. The price was good and I wasn't overly concerned about it. When I picked it up, the rifle was exactly as described––I have no complaints on that point. But there were things like missing swivel bases and other details that I would be certain to mention if I were selling it.
Again, the ad was absolutely not dishonest. It just wasn't as specific and detailed as it could have been.
On a $200 trainer, it was no big deal, but I'd pay a bit more attention on a $1600 SP1.

Notice the adjective I used supposedly!

Definately agreed and very sound advice. A member e-mailed saying they couldn't find one for a decent price on GB and inquired about the two I know hadn't sold in the last two yrs at local funshow for a little more, like the cost of the trainer, and they were obviously used a bit but low numbered. Couldn't remember who the member was and told him I would inquire at next funshow if I went but he'd be better off finding his own deal more than likely.

Just happened to spend the lousy weather day looking at GB. I was amazed at the junk people are selling and the prices they are asking. The SP-1 looked pretty good comparatively speaking but I'm not saying everything was junk just most of what I was interested in. Sure makes the EE and our site vendors look like a bargain bin in my opinion. Probably a deal or two but I checked 80 pages and found possibly a couple. (601 stock and a waffle mag to name two). You are very correct in one had better ask a bunch of questions as he definately will not be getting any more than he paid for in my opinion. Reminds me of the e-bay items that have been running with BIN's for eternity just waiting for that one person in 10 million.
