A few pics of the 653 kit I picked up.
Really nice kit. That barrel is what makes the 653 distinct. Would be a shame to sell it.
That is a beauty !

It's like splitting up a family with small children after their mother was killed, what you're doing...

Hey I'm not happy about it, but circumstances call for it. Wish I could keep it together too.

Get a Nodak lower and geta building, son.

No offense, but if you're trying to sell this, it belongs in the EE or over at RBR.

That was not my intention, but I see now how it looks. I'll edit my OP.
That kit is beautiful.
That is not a 653 barrel. It looks like a M16A2 carbine barrel. (An export barrel from what I picked up online.) Is there a date code behind the FSB.. I am guessing a 1996 date?
ETA: I am only trying to be educational.
Here is a picture of a [TOP to Bottom] of a
-Late 723 barrel 1/7 twist,
-the m16a2 carbine barrel, 1/12 twist
-early 723 barrel, 1/7 twist.
NOTE the profile of the barrel behind the FSB. the early 723 is what the profile of the 653 looked like.

I've seen several of these on Air Force 654 style GUUs. 14.5 inch 1/12 twist with 604 type uppers and 2 position aluminum stocks.

Correct. Dated 1/96, and it is 1/7. Kind of a bummer, I guess I will let the seller know what's up. I guess it would still make for a good 653 build.
Would there be a big difference in value? I would think the 723 barrels from the '90's would be easier to find than the 653's from the '70's.
nice score, you beat me to it by about 5 mins!
I would consider a 1:7 barrel like that more desirable than the 1:12 I have. Wanna trade?

Seriously, either makes a great carbine, but the 1:12 is limited to 55 gr ammo. I haven't checked the twist rate on the NIW barrel I aquired a few months ago to replace the one I sold Olgunner, but all the ones I've seen are 1:12 not 1:7. Most people would rather have the latter for normal use, but some would prefer not to have the marks for building an XM177 or 653.
ETA - Oh, gunnut made good points about the profile differences, but they are hidden by the HGs.

Are u sure ur barrell is 1 / 7 twist. because yours is marked c m p chrome bore, I think it is 1 / 12 twist. the 1 / 7 twist 723 barrels are mark cmp nato 1 / 7. I'm sure an actual 653 barrel is pretty hard to find but the 723s that I have I
, have been around $250-275 a few years ago when I got them. The m16a2 barrel I have like the one u have I think were about low 200s, but I am sure all the prices have gone up since then.
Any typos are the result of Android typing.

I checked the 723 barrel just now with a cleaning rod and measured the twist rate, it is 100% 1:12.
I had no idea Colt made barrels as late as 1996 with 1:12 twists. Learn something every day in retro land!

I think they were replacement barrels for some Arab countries like the ones in the Arabic peninsula or some thing like that and possibly Israel too, but regardless, we got some nice new barrels as a result.

mine is going on a IDF build.
