 XM177 sling length?

How long should the sling be for the XM177 series carbines? The manual I have has a drawing showing the sling wrapping through the butt stock and attaching near the front sight post. This makes the sling look like it's about twice the length of the weapon.

I have a small hand full of green slings with the quick release buckle but none of them are that long. I'm looking to sell the extra ones but only if they are period correct slings.

Edited to add, the green slings I have are about 44" long.

I would think a rifle length sling would be right. 44" is a bit short. I used a regular rifle length sling on my M4 in Iraq and it was extremly roomy.

I've got the green nylon sling with the quick release slide on my carbine and it works great. It's the standard length sling though. Don't know if others are available or not.

The Dick Meadows statue at Ft. Bragg shows him with an XM177 using a duffel or M60 sling with snap hooks ("carbine hooks" ) on each end.

I have a small number of those slings also. They were used on TA312 field phones, commo reels, combat life saver bags, MOPP gear bags and a host of other uses in the Army.
