 7.5" Bolt fouling deposit.

I have noticed a significant amount of carbon and copper fouling on the back end of the bolt on my 7.5" pistol.

I am working on scraping it off. Is this common? Any tricks to quickly removing it?

Sometimes I get OCD and scrape it but its really a self-limiting thing. As new is deposited the old gets blasted off and forced out the vent holes in the BCG.

As fast as the bolt is moving when fired if anything gets in the way it'll be ground up and chipped away.

Keep the bolt tail wet with lube to minimize this.

I would just leave it. Not worth scrubbing off. If it doesn't come off with your cleaner of choice using a maximum force of a nylon brush, I would suggest leaving it.

Generally, scraping with metal tools and stuff like that wears away the finish on the bolt which is important to keep. Carbon buildup on the bolt tail does not negatively affect the function of the weapon.

Find an old piece of range brass and some solvent.

Use the case mouth on the range brass as a scraper.
(It won't damage bluing, park, and some other finishes).

I am OCD, and I do like my firearms clean.
You notice it more on your AR pistol because the gas system is so short.
Direct Impingement is dirty...short gas systems and direct impingement are FILTHY.
