Does anyone ever use their pistol for hunting? If so what kind of range can one expect with a pistol?

What are you wanting to hunt?
I hunt rabbits with my .22/.22 mag Revovler, and have to to about 50 yards, but we are talking jack rabbits.
I have friends that hunt lions and bears with everything from .357 to .454 Casull (over hounds), and shots rarely range beyond 30 yards or so.
If I were hunting deer with a hand gun, I would want at least a .41 and would limit myself to about 75 yards, 100 with a 44, and a bit longer with a .454.
Then there is the Contender series, and the ranges extend considerably from there.
