Let's see your cheapest AR pistol build..
Lots of guys post up pics of their really nice rigs.. I was just on another board I frequent and there is a "Show your cheapest RV" and there were a lot more aircraft in there that looked pretty good than I thought they would, so I thought I'd start one here..
Show us your cheapie build, be sure to tell us what you used and how much you've got in it! :)
$175 80% lower mill out
$350 JSE upper
$125 RRA stainless BCG
$10 Ergo grip
$50 LPK
$40 RRA buffer tube assembly
$30 Troy QD
$18 Magpul enhanced trigger
$18 Magpul 10/30 mag
$75 MI Buis sight
$891 Total
I had some these items on hand laying around. So the cost of the project was actually less......
Mine:
Plum Crazy poly lower, + LPK - grip. (As stripped, virgin receiver.) $75!
Hogue grip
RRA tube
Various cheap parts
Barska cheapo 2X scope
Tapco poly riser
I. K. H. SLAP (Apparently, someone has written music for it!)
"SLAP" by IKH
Homebrew single point sling. I slip my weak hand thumb through the tightening loop for counter-tension.
BATFE-approved fore-strap
Smith Vortex (Gets bad looks at the range...)
Pupley paracord
Was going to get a DPMS 7 inch barreled A2 Kitty Kat upper, but went with the Adams Arms 5.56 PDW Piston Upper. I like it! (Adams Arms needs to make an 11.5" one.)
Upgrades planned as I learn to appreciate the AR-15 pistol platform.

you said cheap, right? haha. i think i have only $500-550 in this (and all new. haha). which shouldn't be surprising, by its (fugly) appearance...
in retrospect, i wish i spent a few bucks more and picked up a flat top upper, instead (and a 10.5)...
if it's not obvious - dpms kitty kat (and lpk/bcg), spike's lower. 'standard' pistol buffer tube, circa 2005.
Here's mine:
Blem upper $69
DPMS lower $79
CMMG .22 bbl $99
YHM tube $99
Ciener conversion $-already owned
LPK and grip $-already owned
TAC 65 can $-already owned
So call it about $375 all in (least that's what I told wifey)
Here's my budget build. Well that's what it started out as. Originally I was just going to keep it simple and cheap. Before the Surefire light, BAD lever, YHM EZ pull pins, and linear comp I was around $650 - $700. I'm going to add an EOTech and call it good.
Double Star Pistol lower
DPMS 7.5" barrel
RRA buffer tube
RRA 9mm buffer
Del-Ton BCG and lower parts
Unknown handguards and upper
I got the freefloat handguard tube off the EE. It's a one piece design (no separate barrel nut). Can anyone tell me who made it?
Saving this space. This is the stock photo from the webstore.
Aero Precision matched set that represents my build. I ordered the set at the beginning of this week. I'm researching now for the best prices I can get on parts. I'll add to this post as I pick up parts and install them. $142 delivered. I am an the FFL and will transfer and register per Pa law myself.

And here we go. I received the Aero Precision matched set yesterday. The rest of my parts have been ordered from JSE and Midway USA and are in transit.

I'll have better pics as the build proceeds.
I am really considering an Aero set for my pistol as well..
I should have all my stuff but the flash suppressor and the flip up sights. I haven't decided on which to go with yet.

I've got my build pretty much planned, I think.
Aero upper/lower
SAA BCG
Palmetto LPK
Magpul MOE Grip
Spikes Pistol Buffer Tube
DPMS 7.5" barrel
Haven't decided on a rail yet. I want something that will allow the Levang or KX3 to poke out just a little bit, but not much.
I can't decide on sights. FSP or flip ups. I think I'll go flip-ups..

I'm thinking of going with MBUS but not sure. I've seen them and think they are a bit flimsy. I have Midwest Industries BUIS on my carbine. I've seen A.R.M.S. flip ups at a decent price. I'll have to check with one of my distributors.

I have an MBUS on one of my rifles, I like it, but I'm always open to new options.. I don't like the look of the Midwest pieces. I know it's not all about looks, but some percentage of it is. ;) The ARMS look nice..

I like the look and sight picture from the MI sights. I settled on the ARMS though. Keeping the price down and got a decent price. Going with the YHM flash hider.
Not the best pics and I haven't added up the total yet. More of both later.

I picked up some CAA sights for the pistol and sighted it in today. I'll post pics of the pistol tomorrow. I shot at 25 and 50 yards and the groups are within 2.5 inches. I'll bring them in closer once I'm more used to the gun itself. It is one loud bugger. When it's all said and done I'm happy with it.
SD billet lower (free/x-mas)
SS LPK $60
Kns $30
Take off DPMS lo-pro upper (free)
Citadel 7.62x39 barrel ($115)
Kies gas block.$26
Kies charging handle $26
Yhm diamond fft $108
Yhm trim ring $15
Gas tube $20.
A2 $10
Magpul mbus $90
Left over Car tube (free)
Ex trigger guard $8
Asap $25
Rsa $25
MS2 $47
BC left over (free)
Bolt $65
Miad already had (free)
Asc mags $32 x2
Miscellaneous rail covers $20
Its not done yet. Still have to wrap the tube /demill.
Torque the barrel nut
And install the gas tube. ( which hasn't arrived)
$722 but it has sights and a sling. Not too bad. My last one cracked $1200.
So this is cheap to me.

Mine is still in the works, here is the breakdown so far:
-CMMG stripped lower, $95 including shipping/transfer
-CMMG LPK, $61.50 w/shipping
-ACE Buffer tube, buffer, etc., $75 w/shipping
-Cheepie sling from CDNN, $5 (thrown in with an order, so no additional shipping cost)
-C-Products 20 round magazine from CDNN, $5 (thrown in with an order, so no additional shipping cost)
-Model 1 Sales flat top 10.5" 5.56mm Upper with carry handle from the EE, $257.50 shipped
-Charging Handle, $15 (shipped with the ACE set, so no extra shipping)
The upper is en route, after that all I need is a BCG.
So far I am at $ 514. Figure another $100 or so for the BCG and I should be set. The Model 1 upper will probably eventually become a dedicated .22 platform and be replaced by a BCM or other "higher end" upper that will hopefully eventually find its way onto an SBR.
Here is the work in progress:
Bump to avoid archiving...
Here is mine, edited to show complete pistol as it stands now.

I fixed that for you, RRA BCG is Full Chrome, not SS

I never quite figured this out, but you cant seem to get bargain uppers and barrels for less than a bargain complete upper. For example, you got the spikes upper for about $100, and the barrel from palmetto for bout $200, but you still need gas tube, botl/carrier, charging handle, foregrip (optional), gas block, muzzel device (optional). All told, probibly another $200. Grand total $500.
Alternatly, you could grab a DSA upper for $275, then all thats needed is a rear sight, bolt/carrier and charging handle, probibly $425 total. This is tho route I will take (sorta).
Spikes blem lower- $65
DSA 10.5 upper- $275
Charging handle- $15
CMMG Lower part kit- $55
Carbine buffer tube, buffer, spring,etc.- freeish as I had a spare kicking around and dont remembr what I paid originnaly (note: I will be JB welding the holes in the buffer tube)
I will also cheat with the bolt carrier as I will use my CMMG .22 conversion.
Im going with that I have $400 invested in mine, with the disclamer that I am using funny math with my buffer tube, etc and .22 conversion. I also havent decided on a rear sight, and one of these days I will actually get the bolt/carrier, so add another $150ish at a later date.

My build is centered around that barrel. It's an "I gotta have this" barrel for me. Made by FN, Hammer Forged CMV 1/7 twist.
The Spikes blem lower a bargain, the best bargain available right now anyway. AIM just happened to have a Spikes Upper Receiver also for $99.95. Can't buy a quality complete upper receiver for too much less.
And I have a large supply of spare parts & Like new take offs that will go on this build. To complete this build I only need to spend another $43 out of pocket at Brownells.
Cant argue with you there. If you have to have a specific barrel, you got to bit the bullet and buy. I on the other hand dont care if it is x or y barrel as long as it performs (and I have ben pleased with my 16" DSA upper) so the complete upper makes more sence for me. Also cant argue with the deal on the spikes blm lowrs, thats why I had to grab 2
