 LMT 6.8 bbl question

I bought an LMT 6.8 bbl off the EE, when I received the bbl I noticed there is no indexing pin on the extension. Does this bbl require a special upper receiver? If not how do you index the bbl onto the receiver? Yes it has M4 cuts.

Thanks for any help

I think it only works with the MRP upper...

I have a MRP upper, they are very different in that the barrels a easily swapped out, very much unlike a standard AR barrel.

The MRP, (Monolithic Rail Platform) is a single piece of aluminium making up the upper receiver and the rail with two hex screws which allow easy barrel replacement.

Any idea where I can get the upper receiver? How about free float tubes? Need a special one of those also?

Forgot to ask, will this MRP upper fit on a standard AR lower?

Thanks

I beginning to think that you probably got a really good deal on this barrel and no one informed you it diferent than a standard barrel.

I did that one time on a set of 4 piston brake calipers for my 5.0 mustang. Ended up having to buy new spindles, rotors and then wheels. lol.

DING DING DING, we have a winner....

I am now trying to decide if to keep it and get the stuff to finish my 6.8 build or sell it and get a standard 6.8 bbl....

They sometimes pop up in the EE... you may also want to call LMT, I believe they were saying at SHOT Show they were going to be selling the Chassis without barrel and extras...

There is a lot of MRP info here:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_12/509835_MRP_Badness__chapter_3.html

No need for a free float rail, MRP stands for Monolithic Rail Platform, the receiver and forend are integrated into one unit... and it will fit on a standard AR lower...

It uses a completely different gas tube (straight, no bend) and gas block. The rail and the upper are one single piece.

By doing so you can loosen the two hex screws and slip out the old barrel and slip in the new. The idea of the straight gas tube insures alignment and it is a part of the barrel assembly.

Hope this helps, it is a fantastic system. The British just adopted the LMT MPR in .308 for their sniper weapon (as did New Zealand)....that should tell you something.

i would call LMT and ask them if you can buy the upper separate. that is the only place you will find one in my opinion. i love my mrp.

and yes the mrp upper will fit on any standard ar15 lower.

Yep, better get someone from LMT on the phone. IIRC, they mentioned around Shot Show that upper recievers were going to be available without a barrel soon, they just didn't give a timeline. Good luck, the MRP system is badass.

Or buy a MRP 5.56 upper and have the ability to change calibers, which is what the system was designed for. You will have better luck finding a complete MRP upper in the EEA over just a chassis. Although, it does happen from time to time.

Try Great Lakes Shooters Supply.

I purchased a LMT MRP CQB receiver from them.

Sorry, I wasn't trolling. But a few posts in, and the answer was right there.

FWIW LMT MRP CQB or the LMT MRP are great! I own a few of them. BUT your budget is a key factor as the MRP isn;t cheap. Personally I would get the LMT MRP upper and go that route since you could change out the carrier and barrel to other calibers.

Once again sorry for earlier.

These folks actually have the upper receiver for only $600+.....looks like the MRP barrel is going to be sold.....

Thanks for all the help, I appreciate you guys..

Oh and RDS_FSU...No problem Brother, guess I got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning..
