DPMS Mark 12
Thinking about the mk 12. Opinions?
I was very interested in the Mark 12, but I decided to build my own MEGA MA-TEN. No one in my area had one in stock so I started looking online for one. I chose not to skimp on the barrel. I figured the barrel is the most important part of the build.
I read as much as I could find about the Mark 12. Some said the barrel shoots great and some say it wasn't so great. Some say that you get some good ones and sometimes you get some not so good ones. Flip a coin and hope for the best.
You should price out building one with the parts & barrel you specifically want and see how it compares to buying a DPMS. I'm pretty sure building one will cost a bit more, BUT it will be exactly the way you want it to be. For instance you don't have to skimp on a barrel. You can use a stock trigger or go with an upgraded trigger. You can use a Magpul PRS stock or go with a fixed stock. There's a lot of ways to save or spend your money on a build.
One of my buddies has one and it's a good rifle. A little on the heavy side, and I'd replace the handguard if it were mine, but overall it's a nice rig. I went a slightly different route and bought an Oracle LR-308 to save some $ on the base gun, then decked it out with my preferred accessories since I would have done that with a more expensive factory configuration anyways.
Bought the mk 12. had a few jams at first but it seems like ammo was cause. heavier than i think it should be. accuracy is decent, again ammo matters. but after shooting with friends who own other brands of varying quality i am very happy with it. More later
