What calibers can you have in an AR platform?? 25-06 possible??

I have a relative asking me about getting an AR after seeing mine, but he wants one in 25-06! I have never seen one in this caliber. Is this available anywhere? And that leads me to another question along the same lines, What calibers are possible on an AR platform, besides the obvious .308, 6.5 and 6.8?

I'm wanting to build a 6.8 upper soon and was wondering where the best place to find parts for a 6.8 build would be? Thanks

.25-06 wouldn't fit in an AR-10 rifle that I'm aware of. .260 Remington would be a close second, and that works in an AR-10 platform. It is a .264 round based on the .308, compared to a .25-06 which is a .257 round based on the .30-06. That would make for a reasonable substitute.

I have also seen some AR-10 uppers in .257 Roberts if you are specifically looking for a .257 round, but its a "NO" on the .25-06 as far as I know.

I think that a 25 cal Ar10 is a very interesting option.

If you want it simple, the 260 Rem is the easiest to get. I also think that Ar10 are being chambered in 6.5 Creadmoore. These are all basically the 308 case necked to 26 cal.

If you want to got with a 25 cal, as mentioned above the 257 Roberts is an option. The case length is about .23" longer than the 308 but given the overall length it should work through the Ar10 action and mags. Another option is the 250 Savage. I have been thinking about building one of these. I think that in a modern action I think that you can build reload the 250 Sav and get an additional 150-200 fps (~3000 fps for a 100 gr). If you consider the Ackley Improved version you can match the 25-06 velocities.

There is also a wildcat based on the 308 called the 25 Super. It is just a 308 necked down to 25 cal. It also matches the 25-06 velocities.

I hope this helps,

I believe the closest caliber in an AR 15 Platform would be the .25 WSSM. Olympic Arms and D-Tech make them. Check out the Olympic Arms Owners Association Website and you will find many postings about the performance of this caliber in the AR 15 platform.
I have an Olympic Arms K8 Magnum in .243 WSSM and it really shoots tight groups. Have fun!

Technically wasn't there a company that made a rifle that was an AR platform with 4 different sizes? AR15 size, ar10 size, 30-06 size and one bigger?

EDIT: Here

25 WSSM is the closest I know of. Runs in the AR-15 receiver. Just got my OLY recently and I am happy with the fit and accuracy. But some people say they are complete trash. Mine seems to run just fine though.

Cobb used to make an AR in 30-06, that would have been easy to switch over to a 25-06.

The problem is that Bushmaster or rather Cerebus Absorbed Cobb, and I fear that was the end of Cobb's fine line or firearms, and esoteric calibers

Thanks for all the info,I had no idea that all the different calibers that were available in it. I must admit to not know much about the 25-06 cartridge, but dang all the others available is amazing.

BTW this site was instrumental in my AR budget build which I finally got completed at Christmas time. It shoots MOA with factory ammo @ 30 degree's out and me shaking like a leaf! I'm loading some 75gr Hornady match grade ammo Sunday to try out in it.

Thanks again
