Troy VTAC trx or Troy Bravo, both rifle length?
My Setup:
- 16'' barrel with the FSB pinned to the barrel.
My Scenario:
- I cut the FSB down to make it a low profile gas block, but am concerned about the FF being able to twist on over it. I have a Yankee Hill low profile gas block, and a BravoCo gas tube put together. Can I use the shaved down FSB, or do I definitely have to switch it out?
- I want to use a rifle length quad, so I lead to the question of: Which are the pro's and con's of each quad rail above?
-Thanks

Cutting down the FSB is the way to go. I have a 10.5" with a FSB, which I cut down and re-pinned. My 9" Troy Alpha (replacement for the TRX line of rails) installed easily over it and rotated into place. I don't have any experience with the Bravo, but I love the Troy Alpha. It's also a little bit lighter and has a few more aftermarket accessories than the VTAC Alpha.
Here's a shot showing the shaved down gas block under the rail:

Shaved FSB will work, just remember, you're gonna have to shave a lot, I had to when I did one. I"d recommend the VTAC, ot the regular Alpha, whichever tickles your fancy. The Bravo is gonna be heavier, and probably noticeably so. My experience is more with the older TRX Extreme and VTAC Extreme with the older mounting system, but I do have an Alpha. The tube diameters are the same as far as I can tell, and they're good rails. The only problem I've ever had is it can be a bit fussy to get the rail sections installed where you want them, but once you get them there, they stay put.
Yep, I am going to touch up the cut down FSB with a dremel, so I can get rid of the squared edges. Putting it next to the YHM lo pro on, its pretty close in diameter. I am going to pull out the caliper gauge for shoots and grins.
Have you guys tried the Bravo or conventional quad rails in general compared to the VTAC style? If so, how do they compare? I am really liking the Alpha rail alot.

I used to have a quad rail, but the only thing I have on my rail is a VFG, if that. If I ever add a flashlight, there's mounts which attach directly to the Alpha rail. So I decided there's really no need to have a quad rail, and the added weight sucks. Plus, the small diameter is really nice if you just like to hang onto the rail itself.
Impact Weapon Components makes a ton of mounts and accessories for the Alpha rail, like a QD sling socket, flashlight mounts, handstops, etc.
Thats good to know. I never handled a full rifle length quad rail on a carbine setup, so I would imagine it would be very nose heavy. I was looking at the centurion arms c4 quad, but I think I was looking at it for cosmetic reasons over anything.
Full quad rails aren't necessarily nasty nose heavy, and there are high quality ones that are fairly light (DD lite, Centurion). All I mount to one is a vfg, a QD sling mount, and a light. I use a VTAC light mount on top with the SureFire off to the left where I can push the tail button with my thumb. Consequently I need minimal rail space, and thus prefer the modular rails so I get to take advantage of the weight savings and slimmer profile.
