Are the old surplus FN M16A2 barrels that are floating around out there hammer forged? The ones that are marked "fnmi mp 5.56 nato 1/7"

I can't seem to find a definitive answer to this question on the forum or the web at large...

They have a "non hammer forged" 20"mil-spec upper onsale now for $299.

I would not assume all Palmetto FNH barrels or upper are hammer forged.

I believe he is talking about "surplussed" FN 20 in barrels that were in the .gov system at some point but no longer are. Not new barrels from PSA

This.

I'm leaning towards 'no' being the answer based on what I've been able to gather from google, but still not sure.

Gov't M16A2 barrels are NOT hammer forged, they are button rifled.

Nope. Gov't doesn't get hammer forged barrels on the 16 platform.
