I just finished a rifle using this barrel, it is very nice, I would compare it to $400 barrels... Its $60 off, if you are looking for a carbine.. This same sight has daniel defence chrome lined barrels for 190$ with a free pmag

Could you settle for an M4A1 barrel? $250 with FSB and barrel nut.

Is ths what's considered a "standard" M4 barrel? I don't understand the A1 nomenclature with regards to a barrel.

Thanks,

The standard profile is thinner under the hand guard as in the first example. M4A1 is thicker under the hand guards as in the last example.

I need help.

Today I was helping a friend build a complete rifle. The upper is a flattop with a 16" RRA barrel (heavy under the handguard area) and we're finishing it with a Daniel Defense 9.5FSP rail system - but we had a big problem.

Once assembled we quickly noticed that the about a full 2" of the gas tube was fully exposed and not covered by the rail system. MY rifle that we had sitting on the bench only had about a 3/8" area exposed. We quickly discovered that my friend's barrel front sight tower location was a full 2" farther forward than on my 16" M4 lightweight barrel. WTF!? I have never seen this difference in sight tower location in a 16" barrel.

Is there some other 16" standard that I am unaware of (apparent so)?

Help.

It sounds like you have a 16" barrel with a mid-length AR-15 gas system. If your gas tube winds up where it's supposed to in relation to the upper receiver then you fortunately got the right mid-length gas tube, but your rail system is not right for that configuration.

That explains it. We wanted to build a true M4 upper, not a mid-length. The DD 9.5FSP rail system is for a true 16" M4 barrel. We'll have to see if they will exchange the barrel for a real M4 type.

Thanks,

I believe a true M4 barrel is 14.5" with carbine gas system. Unfortunately you'd need a perm break/hider attached, make it into an AR pistol or register it as an SBR which be a waste(may as well get a 11.5" or shorter barrel if that be the case).

Also I just saw this on slickguns.. pretty good deal with a cheap free float thrown in. M4 barrel and free float rail.

Well we already have the DD rail system so we'll need a 16" barrel that fits this configuration.

How do I specify the correct 16" M4 barrel when I order one?

I've built 5 other M4's to date and have never run into this sight tower issue.

Specify a carbine gas system.
