 Clamp on Bayonet lug?

I have a clamp on style lug for a post ban type rifle. I was wondering if I should put some teflon tape or a thin piece of leather around the barrel first? Or will these just burn off? I didn't want to scratch the barrel if I ever take it off. Thanks

Those clamp ons are soo gay, i know you didn't ask for my opinion but there it is nontheless. If you're that worried about scratching your barrel i wouldn't think that you are likely to get your barrel that hot so go for it. Of course you relie that should you evre have to use your bayo that you might get a scratch in your barrel as it hangs iup in the bad guys rib as you attempt to withdraw it..

You don't understand. I want to bayonet the paper dolls.

which is worse, not wanting to scratch it, or the individual that kicks his rifle across a cement driveway so it looks used?

As much as the lugs make the antis quiver, everyone should have three on every gun!

I added a lug to my DR200 once upon a time, using a clamp-on. No scratches just clamping it down.

From the top to bottom:

M7 IDF IMI-Solingen Galil/ M16
Ontario OKC3S US Marine
M7 USGI Eickhorn-Solingen
M7 USGI Imperial

I would recommend the large type bayonets because they look more scary like the Ontario OKC3S USMC, any brand M9 bayonets and the new Ontario M10 US Army bayonet.

To the Original Poster,

Adapters are more trouble, just use standard bayonet lugs under the front sight base.

Either have a 14.5" (with perm long FS or SBR) carbine, mid length gas system carbine or 20" rifle gas system, those should work fine with standard USGI bayonets.

An extended custom made handle bayonet is also better than using the adapters because they lock more solid to the bayonet lug.

I have a Stag Arms carbine w/ 16"
looks like i have more space between my lug and the end of the barrel then you show.
Is a standard bayonett going to work or would i need one with an extended handle?
