I'm going to sell my LEO M4 that has been bouncing around in my scout car for the last couple years, and want to know if anyone knows the correct markings for the carry handle? I have one that appears to have a D or a leaf and a 7 on it, but don't remember if it's from my weapon.

That's just the forging mark. The problem is that alot of the same companies (Colt, Bushmaster, Etc.) use many of the same forgings so it is not un-common to have a Colt and Bushmaster carry handle with the same exact forge marks. I myself have a Colt and Bushmaster carry handle, both have the Cardinal Forge mark on them, the only way I can tell the difference is the machining (Bushmaster is machined slightly nicer) and the sight (the style of the Colt sight #'s are a little different than anyone elses).

If I did'nt buy them new myself and they were mixed together I would'nt be able to tell one from the other.

Early Colt A3 handles had a "A-something" on the left side forword of the sight housing. Example "A3" or "AB". Later that forge marking became more generic due to different forging sources and other AR makers offering A3 carry handles. Now its harder to ID one 100% as Colt. Maybe someone will chime in with a later Colt M4 handle marking.

So, not to get too far off topic, but how much are you gonna ask for the Colt?

BTW, my RRA Carry handle has the Cardinal forge marks on it.

You are talking about flat top M4 carry handles, right? Here's two Colts that just happened to be laying on my desk. The gray one is from a 6700, the black from a 6920. I have a M4A2 upper also, which is marked C MB on side and M4 in front. Hope this helps.

I paid $850...will sell for $750. But heres the deal. I bought this on a dept letterhead, individual ofc purchase. As long as I can legally sell the weapon than it's yours. It is approx 10 years old. Not many rounds through it, but has slight wear on the outside of the rifle. I really want the M96 Recon from Robinson Armament so will work a part trade too. My e mail is Motorrad243@comcast.net.

Colt, BM, RRA, etc. use the same source of forgings for detachable carry handles. The difference between Colt and all the rest is the thickness of the forging from the shelf that the rear sight sits on to the bottom of the carry handle. On Colt carry handles this thickness will be roughly 0.04 inches greater so that the carry handle will work with the higher "F" marked FSB. BM and others machine the shelf lower on the carry handle forging so that a standard A2 FSB can be used.

Have you noticed anything unusual about the 6700 handle? The reason I ask is that I have one that looks like the one in your pic, with the unusual cutout shape, but it doesn't mate up 100% with the flattop upper I own (which is non-Colt). The other handle I own, which I was assured was from Colt, fits just fine. I'm wondering if the typically obscure Colt reasoning might have anything to do with this discrepancy (ie. push pin and FCG sizes).

All I know about it is that it fits the gray 6700 upper fine. I can't test it on a 6920 because it has a RAS2 in the way. I'll try it on some LMT and CMT uppers and get back to you here in a day or two.
