Who makes the PTAC uppers that PSA is selling?

Can someone shed some light on this for me? It seems like lots of the PSA Daily Deals are the PTAC uppers. Who makes 'em? What is the quality like?

Thanks.

The quality standards they are held to is a lot more important than who makes an item.

PSA has said that PTAC is a local company (and PSA is the only distributor) that takes out the middle man, hence the lower price. I personally don't own any ptac products, but I have not seen any negative reviews. I think I might be willing to spend an extra $20 or so to buy products from companies that I know more about.

Exactly! Well said. Its doesn't matter if it says fruit loops on the side, if its made to high quality standards then it will perform to those standards.

I have one of these on order and it should be here next week. I will post up once it is here.

Yes, however:

1) I asked what the quality was like
2) You can often determine quality by who makes it, ie reputation etc.

Once again, that's why I asked about the quality. Quality is often inferred by a manufacturer/reseller who has a good reputation. However, in instances where that is not always the case that is why I specifically asked about quality.

So do you know?

[/quote]They are made by PTAC, a new company. Like he said the quality is most important. I have one and will upload hi res photos sometime this week. How they keep the price this low... I have no idea as the yhm rails alone are $150ish. The only part that was questionable on mine is the bolt. Even if I trashed the bolt, I couldn't get a comparable upper for the same price. Quality is not always inferred by manufacture. I have seen some really nice guns come from a less desirable name and if you look on here hard enough you will see some bad quality parts that came from reputable brands. I never buy hype.

I have one of these uppers. What I can tell you about mine is that it runs great, but has the accuracy of a shotgun. I have a little over 300 rounds through it and now I have a problem with the bolt. Currently, I looks like PSA isn't going to do anything about except call it "normal wear and tear" and leave it up to me to replace the bolt. The price is great, but my opinion is that the quality just isn't there. YMMV.

Only the Bolt? This is arguably the single most important piece in an AR.
This does not instill much confidence.

What's the problem you are having with the bolt?

Normally, your first point of contact/relief for a defective new product would be the retailer you bought it from, and failing that (or depending on the warranty from the manufacturer), contact with the manufacturer would be your next move.

I bought one the complete PTAC kits. The worst I can say about it is that when I got mine was that was that the lube had hardend to the point of being glue. After cleaning it up I have to say it is a great entry level rifle.

Few if any of the major players in the AR market will tell you who makes their stuff. There are a number of forges and they make parts for a number of manufacturers. You may never know who really made your upper or lower.

Often quality in the AR market is determined by reputation. There are far to many good well established companies out there to gamble on a new name until they are proven one way or the other.

I ordered one of the PTAC uppers from PSA a few days ago.....I'm interested in that it's going to look/shoot like. All the reviews seem pretty good on them, for $400 for a complete upper it's hard to complain...as long as it runs good.

I know a few guys that have them, and they have had nothing but good things to say...that's why I got one.

I have a couple of PTACs and I think Palmetto's description of them is accurate. The fit and function are fine, on part with any other AR in the 800-1000 price range. There are no frills but some people don't care about that. They are a good simple AR-15 to get and become familiar with the weapon system.

I got one and it has a square on it and I'm told it is made by Brass Aluminum Forging Enterprises.

I keep on hearing the word "frills". Seriously what does this refer to???

I have read several ''reports'' on PTAC on other forums,, all leave favorable comments about them. No, I do not have one, but would not be ''skeered'' to try one.

That's who made the forging, not the milling and finishing of the upper.

FWIW, I called PSA yesterday before putting in an order for a first build, and they said that they are indeed the only distributer of P-Tac (as someone else previously mentioned), but because of this fact, their limited lifetime warranty applied to P-Tac parts.

Long story short, I rolled the dice like a lot of other people, so we'll see how things look and perform once it's complete.
