Changing the barrels between two uppers

I recently purchased a Del-Ton upper receiver with a 16" barrel, and I currently have a DPMS upper with a 16" barrel. The Del-Ton is midlength, the DPMS is carbine. I want the DPMS barrel on my DTI upper because it has the T-marks and the finish matches my lower better. I will be using the BCG from the DTI in the DTI upper still. The DTI is unfired, the DPMS has 20 rounds through it.

Is there anything special I need to do before switching these barrels out?

Nope.

Push the pins out and swap the uppers. The magic of AR-15s.

Edit

If you want to swap the barrels, you need a few tools. Check out the build it yourself section (sticky post) for the tools and procedures needed.

I have all the tools, but was wondering about spacing and such. They should already be headspaced from the factory, right?

Right.
I wouldn't change a receiver for 'T' marks. But, that's just me

It's also to have matching finish, and my free float has T-markings. There's a certain beauty in uniformity.

Yes and no. The barrels are headspaced when the barrel extension is installed onto the barrel. That is using their measurement tools. The only other thing that can affect headspacing is the bolt used. Typically AR-15s do not experience many headspace issues. The problem is if the barrel assembler headspaced an extension that was near one end of the range and the user was using a bolt that was on the opposite end of the scale. If that makes sense. lol

So if you use a new or different barrel the bolt is the only thing the end user can change to affect headspacing. Sometimes, and I mean rarely, a bolt may not headspace correctly to a barrel. In those cases a simple bolt change may be all that is needed. The consensus is if you match a low round count bolt with a low round count barrel the chances of headspace issues is rare.

Correct. Set the barrels and replace the gas tube. Then go shooting.

Just keep the same bolt/barrel combo and everything is the same, receiver is irrelevant to headspacing.

Important: Check your feedramps to see what you have in both barrels and receivers. If by switching you create the "bad" combo of M4 cut receiver and rifle barrel extension you might have problems.
