does anyone else out there love the worn/used look on rifles..or do most ppl prefer to keep them "clean"

Only if it is natural wear from years of use, like my 94 Winchester and S&W model 13. Throwing one down the driveway to attain it is sacrilege.

ya don't beat up your rifle or scuff it up on purpose unless its a retro. The anodizing and park is there for a reason.

I really like the worn look as long as it occurs on its own. Gives the rifle character.

Do you mean purposely abusing a weapon to give it that battlefield tested look, or just the "it's been well used, but cared for while in the field over the years" look? I have well worn rifles that are showing their age, but not from neglect. I also have old rifles that look brand new even though they've had mucho rounds down the pipe. I prefer a clean well used weapon when at all possible.

Sorry, did not mean to infer that you did. It was just because of seeing a couple of thread where others had.

This is an example of worn from use that I like. BTW, that is not rust on the receiver, just the way the light is hitting it.

Clean!

Eventual wear and tear is inevitable, but for most of us, we're not going to get the truly "used" look of a military weapon. Which is nice, cuz some of those were pretty busted.

When my finish gets worn out I'll send it out to be refinished,I don't want some old POS looking beat up rifle.

Search out user "Augee", and you'll be able to see many well broken in rifles.

The look - after 94 years, two World Wars and possibly other actions:

Honestly, I wouldn't want my ARs to look like this, but I love it on the M1911.

Wear and tear from use and care. That's it. Neglect is bullshit.

I love the way a well used but loved weapon looks.

Id site the M-4 I had at basic but prior privates didn't exactly care too much, had that beat to shit and still passes the go/no go test look to it.
that and the bore reminded me of one of my ex's, Vienna sausage down a hallway type deal....

Give me a break, like everyone should be crawling through the gravel with their personal AR for no reason. Normal range use doesn't make a rifle look like one that is being thrown around by privates in afghanistan.

Now that said, I do crawl with mine and it looks like crap.

Don't "throw it down the driveway"

GIve your rifle a krylon paint job without good surface prep or anything like that. The paint will start to wear off with use and give it a worn look without having to damage your rifle

I don't care if any of my weapons show wear from handling / using

I want the internals in good shape and the weapon clean

I don't think I will ever carry mine around enough to achieve that worn look. But yes I do like the look of the worn ARs in the military

I was just crawling around in gravel with mine last Saturday.... my elbows took most of the damage.

There was also quite a gasp when I threw my 870 and AR into a barrel like it was on fire instead of gently putting down like it was a 3 month old child.

Most of the actual scratches and scuffs are from either rubbing on my belt buckle, or other hard/metal stuff on my or my gear.

Worn all the way brother!!!!!! Never could understand why people try and keep their weapons all pretty like they just bought em???? I like mine to have the battle scars. Its like rings in a tree. You should see my TRP. G21, BCM and my PWS Diablo...... We play hard together and I like that it shows. I take good care of them, they function flawlessly and they get taken care of. My opinion, I think I become more attached to them when i put to the test. Those are the 4 guns I would never sell.

When I was younger, I would get upset if my rifle got a scratch. I went to great lengths to attempt to keep them pristine as possible. I still don't like to scratch them, but I don't worry about it past taking a good look at the damage and thinking "Damn don't do that" to myself.

It is impossible to keep them looking new if you use them a lot. But a little care goes a long way in keeping them looking nice.

My most "used" rifle is a 25-06. It looks great, but it has a lot of wear. Of course when I hunted with it every day it got dinged up. Probably 90 days a year for years at a time.

As far at a rifle having a worn look, no it's obviously not my preferred look.

I like the way it looks.

On my last trip to the range, my bottle of hoppes leaked all over my bag and rifle, thus making a mess out of the krylon I painted it with.

Now that I'm removing my paint job (which I actually enjoyed) its taken the "new" off the rifle and I dig it.

Let it ride around in the back of the gator on the farm, working well so far here.
