Guys, I'm looking for the best Bolt Carrier Group made and would like your opinion on what to buy. Please vote in the poll to make your recommendation. The winning vote will be the bolt carrier group I decide to buy. Seems like a poll is the best way of organizing everybody's preferences.

Colt, Daniel Defense, BCM, Larue, all of more or less equal quality in my opinion.

I don't see a poll...

My Spike's BCG just ran it's first 60 rounds with zero lube to confirm my zero... since I forgot to lube it, I'm pretty happy!

So nobody is going to cry about most of those companies not actually making (manufacturing) thier own bolt carrier groups?

How about some BCG pr0n, all M16 full auto carriers, left is Colt ('05), middle ('05) and right ('08) are LMT (vintage pre MIM gas keys)

+1 OP your poll FAIL! - no Colt

Currently I've got four Colt and two LMT.

I'm less concerned about that than I am about getting the most common names we all keep hearing about. X company makes them for Y, but they're marketed and widely known as Y. Know what I mean? Same deal with lowers......everyone knows that there are a few machine shops who produce them for the big companies.

You know the colt looks worse than the two LMT's. The machining on the gas key is rough and the lower gas key fastener is off-center and the staking is off(though still effective looking).
Interesting.

Yeah, that was sarcasm. I get like that sometimes.

Technical merit: What makes a full auto carrier "better" than a semi auto one. In semi auto AR15's. To me they just help bandaid problems in the 16" barrel carbine system. I have a Bushmaster Semi Auto carrier from 2005 that I have run in Midlengths and Rifles firing as fast as I could with no stoppages.

BCM, Spikes, Colt, DD, LMT, etc. I would trust but verify pretty much any M16 BCG made to military or better specs with proper staking, shot peened, 158 carpenter steel, etc.

It must be just my lighting when I took the picture, actually my Colt looks better than my LMT.

I have a very long experience with Colt about 40 years now and out of my 6 former BCG, two had in each of them around 10K to 15K rounds without any problems and they still look nice.

I don't baby these either, I rapid fire and bump fire them to test them, so you guys don't buy any used BCG and barrels from me at the EE.

Hard to include every BCG when the space allowed in the poll is only limited to 10. I know some folks really like the Colt and and that's one that I wish I had included rather than a couple of the others. Oh well....it's a poll and it's not perfect. All that aside, I am beginning to at least get a clear picture of the most favored BCG (Bravo Co). At this point I'm glad that I ran this poll because previously I hadn't considered them. Truth be told I had a Stag Arms BCG in my online shopping cart and was getting ready to checkout when that little voice inside my head told me stop and consult with the hive first. Not the first time I've heard those little voices in my head.......but that's a different story altogether.

Could be the light, pics are funny especially once they display on some random viewers monitor.

I have been Happy with Colt, FN and Bravo. The only one I have ever had break was the Colt. A bolt holding the gas key severed in half and was a easy enough fix.

As somebody else pointed out, there's no question about it, it does all come down to personal preference, but you simply cannot escape the perception that one brand is better than others. Despite the fact that half a dozen folks complained about Colt not being listed, it appears that Bravo Co has far and away surpassed all the others. I'm going to watch the poll over the weekend and then make my decision based on what I see. It's not possible to list every single BCG maker (poll is limited to 10) and besides since I'm the one writing the check, I listed the companies that I was considering at the time. Oddly enough, Colt didn't even come to mind. I don't have anything against them per se, but I suppose I just blank them out because outside of a couple uppers and a handful of other items, Colt doesn't sell very much on their website. They didn't even list a BCG on their website. I find that odd. Anyway, with so many other top quality manufactures to choose from, many who have gained much name recognition, I could live the rest of my life and never buy anything from Colt and it wouldn't make any difference. So that being said, it will be interesting to see how this poll turns out.

Thanks everybody for your participation.

I prefer Young Manufacturing. I still fail to understand why people on this site get so hung up on gas key staking. During 41 years of playing with M16's and AR's I have never had a screw come loose.

I actually talked to Young about this, I forget what they said but it sounded good, infact I think the paperwork you get from them states all their features, and they talk about non staking the key.. I ended up with a Chrome, M16 , non serrated BCG and luv it, the HardChrome option makes clean up so nice, just a wipe down and im good to go.

No mention of the bcg on larue tactical? Does this mean they don't make it themselves?
Seriously though, I've been looking for an extra bcg, love the larue stuff, but theirs never seems to get mentioned in these threads.
Anyone have any info on their product?
I'm not trying to redirect the thread, just expand the discussion.

WTF! Colt

I have owned Colt, LMT, BCM carriers with Colt bolts, STAG, Bushmaster, and Tactical Machining. I have put a lot of rounds on the Colt, LMT (one has the MIM key! GASP!!!! ), and BCM BCGs, but not the others. Only a few hundred each on the STAG, Tactical Machining, and Bushmaster. All have operated flawlessly except the Colt rifle bolts with the blue inserts that were being used in the BCM carriers, and the Bushmaster. After installing the BCM upgrade inserts and springs, the troubled Colt bolts were cured. The Bushmaster hasn't seen a round since I repaired it gave the rifle away a few years ago

If Colts weren't so damn expensive ala carte, I would use them exclusively. Otherwise, I would probably go with more LMT or BCM. I must admit that I have been considering one of the NiB Spike's units though. Easy to clean sounds great to me.

I don't quite think the J.P. Enterprises carrier is made by the same people who manufacture other carriers!

J.P Enterprises Low Mass Carrier with QPQ finish:

Directly from LaRue's site their description states "LT assembly enhancements greatly minimize bolt-related failures. (gas-key contact areas are surface-ground flat for zero gas leakage and then max-staked to eliminate all chances of vibration-induced failures)."

Also they have a lifetime warranty and great customer service.

Call or e-mail LaRue's customer service if you have any questions, all I know is they're getting theirs from a current military supplier, but don't quote me about it.

This thread is what happens when the consumer can't objectively sort through their available options on their own.

OP, what are your requirements for a BCG?

Why not ask what features are desirable in a BCG? What makes brand X more expensive than brand Y?

Ive got BCM, Spikes and DD BCGs. A couple of this, 3 of that. I think Im set on buying ST from now on. I cant tell shit all difference between them or the DD other than the price. Both are a touch "cleaner" than BCM.

AIM and Spikes BCG for $109.95 shipped, how the hell can you beat that?
