If you have no box, what signifies a Green Label Colt AR-15. Any identifying features ? And why are grn labels desirable, from what I've heard.

For the most part - roll marked "AR15", true preban, bayonet lug, flash hider, small FCG's, no sear block. What's different is, most are slab side lowers (no mag fence) and have the large front pivot screw/pin (double sided screw instead of a standard push pin). Keep in mind though - a lot of the transitional green label and blue label guns will have missing bayonet lugs, slab sides, and a mix of both large & small FCG's. I've never seen or heard of a green label with sear block though.

my $0.02

Mine is a '83. Has the lug, sear drop in is not blocked. Do I assume it is a grn label ?? It is a A2 Sporter with fwd assist also and the flash supp.

I used to have a rifle like yours a model R6500 AR-15A2 Sporter SP2 and it originally had a green label box which I bought brand new in 1984.

My next couple of Colt that I bought the following years also had green label boxes which was my former R6420 A2 SP2 carbine in 1985 and my former R6600 A2 Sporter HBAR rifle in 1986.

All of them I didn't have any problems at all and I just sold them to get new Colt models, but I wish that I had kept them for my collection.

A couple of them that I sold didn't have the green label boxes because of my dumb teenage nephew, one time he brought the rifles in my family room at the back of my house, he took the guns from the boxes and let the boxes sit outside the wall of my family room.

I didn't known it at that time but when I saw my boxes several days later they got wet outside from the rain and got totally ruinded.
