my bushmaster xm15 has .223 .556 stamped on it. I was reading that even though it says both ,(223./.556) on it that some guns are chambered for .223 and that .556 can still damage the gun. just looking to purchase some military surplus .556 and just want to make sure it's o.k.

thanks in advance.

What does the barrel say on it? If it's a BM it should say 5.56

Is the barrel stamped 5.56?

My Bushy eats 5.56mm without a hiccup.

it says .556 on it, but like I said I've read that sometimes even if the gun has .223/ .556 stamped on it it might still have a .223 (shorter leade) barrel... hence higher chamber pressure.

FYI it's .223 (inches) or 5.56 (mm), not ".556"

Sounds like it'll eat that 5.56 with no problemo.

What is on the lower is basically meaningless. What is stamped on the barrel indicates what round it is chambered to accept.

All of my Bushies are marked 5.56 and they function 100% w/ either .223 or 5.56 ammo.... I reload to .223 on the conservative end for case life and they also work great and are still accurate too.

sorry about that (5.56) ... sounds like I should grab this ammo then... thanks for the info.

You have it backwards. If it is only printed .223, it cant handle 5.56. Your good to go. Shoot all the 5.56 you want.
