I am getting a my first AR from RRA. I am looking at a midlength w/ a tac rail. I am having trouble deciding on what to do on top. I am breaking the bank $$ so far, so optics (probably Aimpoint or Eotech not sure which, but leaning toward aimpoint) will be in the future and iron sights will be the main stay for a while. . Can anybody tell what would the pros/cons of each would be? Any info would help thanks alot.

Neither. Get a KAC 300M or Troy, KAC just came out with their lower and less expensive 300M and 600M, I just got a 600M for my SPR

The RRA "tactical" carry handle is the worst misnomer, it's not a handle, and ain't nothing tactical about any of it.

You probably won't find many fans of the RRA tac carry handle here.

I got one with my entry tac but I must say while the sight is excellent quality the only good thing about the tac carry handle is its resale value. It is not functional as anything more than a heavy oversized A2 sight.

Get a quality folding rear like a Troy or if you prefer fixed a LaRue same-plane!

thanks for the replies. I looked on LaRue, I like the Troy folding rear battle sight. Will that give me more options as opposed to the A2 detatchable handle in the future with optics?

Its 80 bucks for the tactical carry handle and 45 for a2. If you go with the tactical handle i forget what model aimpont it is but i think larue sells a mount that will co-witness with it.

I got mine with the dominator2 First thing i did was took it off and put it in the case.

Good luck.

Sent you a pm btw

Flat top and if you don't want a flip up site use the LaRue or an LMT rear site.

There are no pros to the chunk of aluminum shit that RRA calls a Tactical Carry Handle

I sold my tactical carry handle and bought a Troy flip up. I am very very happy.

its not worth keeping, save a few ounces and go with a folding sight

Agree with what everyone has said except for....

If you already have the tactical, no sense in throwing it away. I have a few of them from rifles I/ or friends bought in the past. They gave me the detachabel handles when they installed red dots, scopes ect. I have turned around and sold several, but kept 1 domintaor 2 for the 9mm AR, and since I had the tact laying around I used it on my 22lr spikes build.... since it was free, however the next A2 I get the tactical will come off again. Its just heavy, ugly, and non functional.

If you're sure about the pricing then it'd be best to get the A2 and sell it for a $35 profit. The tac handle sells for about $110. You can only co-witness an aimpoint with the tac carry handle if you use the low aimpoint mount. It's still a piss-poor option.

Ok, I am either going with LMT or the Troy combat flip... (Larue has a stand alone but has no elevation adjustment-dont know if that would become an issue) having said that what should I do for a quad rail, RRA has a couple available from them, what should I look for/avoid? Last area stock I really like the magpul, but part of me just wants the fixed stock. Thanks again for the info, getting closer..

tactical carry handle is useless IMO, I sold mine on e-bay for $100.

Get a Troy Rear BUIS, and then add the optic of your choice.

Are you refering to the flip type of the stand alone style?
