DDM4V1 fsb cant question
Sirs, on my m4V1, I had to adjust the rear sight to the left approx 10-12 clicks from center to get it zeroed. I tried it with several rear sights including a DD a1.5 to confirm. I can actually visually see the fsb slightly canted to the left (from the shooters perspective).
I had my dealer, JR sports in Livermore Ca, return the upper for inspection/repair. Today I spoke with them and they said that it was sent back and was inspected and is within .00002 of dead center, and is being shipped back. Now, I'm no machinist, but that figure is NASA rocket science tolerances and I'm skeptical of that answer.
My question is, am I being shined here? What is considered normal for fsb canting? 5 clicks, 10, 20 on the rear?
Thank you for your time. I am impressed with the rifle, and DD's commitment to building an outstanding rifle. The left leaning fsb just doesn't seem normal to me on a 1.2K rifle.
Thanks
John
John,
I can understand your hesitation to accept an answer of such a tolerance. It is possible that someone mis-spoke or meant .002". However, with that said, with the technology we employ in our quality assurance program, we DO have the capability to take measurements of .00001". Each barrel exhibits different ballistic characteristics, especially with different ammo weights or pressures. If you are still not satisfied with your barrel, we would be more than happy to assist you in rectifying the issues you are encountering. If you are still having trouble zeroing the weapon, please email Bill Bouck in our Customer Service Department and he can assist you. His direct email is: wbouck@danieldefense.com. If there is anything he or I can do do assist you, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Hi Josh, Thank you for your reply. I thnk my biggest question/ frustration was that my dealer told me you guys examined my upper and measured it, he gave me the result of .00002, and that it's coming back as sent in. Like I stated, it has a visibly left leaning sight tower, the rear sight had to be offset 10-12 clicks to get it zeroed. My hope is that it was a miscommunication and that it has been fixed and is NOW within x number of inches from being centered after fixing. I guess we will see when it shows up. Thanks again. I suppose if it shows up with nothing done to it, and it's still canted requiring rear sight offset, I'll call CS directly and try again, and just elIminate my dealer from the equation.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Josh, got my upper back today, 1 month to the day. Nothing was done to it. Tag said within spec. The sight tower is clearly tilted left, rear sight 10 clicks left windage to get shots zeroed. Contacted Bill today at DD to get an RMA to send it in yet again and have someone actually attempt to resolve the issue. Obviously, if I just wanted to shoot optics it wouldnt be a problem, but I love shooting irons. Non of my other AR's, including another DD, have this issue.
Still a fan of DD, but really want this addressed.
Thank you
John
