so i have this "Daniel defense" upper...
i have been doing some reading, i bought this rifle as a daniel defense upper with spikes lower. the logo is on the upper receiver, so no issue there. the bolt carrier group has no markings on it, but the bolt does have MP which looks to be engraved in very precise letters. there are no markings on the barrel, but if you take the BCG out and look at the chamber, it is absolutely beautiful. it looks leaps and bounds better than my bushmaster barrel, and maybe even my colt barrel. its clearly chrome lined. the finish on the barrel is very neat, its a smooth black finish. i thought the barrel was fake, like an airsoft barrel until i touched it and examined it.
my issue is there is no marking on the barrel. i know its chrome lined, i know the upper receiver is DD and good to go, but what about the barrel? how can i tell what type it is and what twist rate and if its really a DD barrel? its a 16" m4 profile barrel. it also has a yankee hill flip sight gas block on it, something i am sure is not original. any ideas? it looks to be an excellent upper, but i just want to make sure.
I would have said go to DD's website and check the marking legend, but since you say your barrel doesn't have any markings, I guess that wouldn't work.
Don't take this the wrong way, but:
1. You said it has a nice finish, CL, looks good, etc. Does it really matter if it's DD or not?
2. If you wanted to be certain you had a DD, then you buy factory direct or from a known entity, not the secondary market.
As for twist rate, they are almost always stamped somewhere on the barrel; if no you can determine it yourself via a number of methods, but, as long as you're not shooting very heavy bullets and it's not 1:8 or 9 (which it probably isn't) you'll be OK.
Bottom line: shoot it 'til it quits...then worry about what barrel you put on it.

Buckwheat762,
I can understand that you would like to ensure that the product you received, is what was advertised. Give me a shout at your convenience and we will discuss some ways to determine whether or not you received a Daniel Defense Product. My direct line is (912) 851-3259. I look forward to hearing from you to discuss this.
Thanks I will give you a shout when I get a free moment
Also like mentioned above, I just want to make sure the product is what was advertised. I bought it because it was local and a good price for a DD product. Everything looks to be quality so I am not too worried more like I just want to know
I seem to recall when the DDM4 first came out, it had a non-hammer forged barrel with no DD identifiers...

Did you look under the handguard? DD often marks under the guard. At least my DDM4V4 is under the rail.

no markings on barrel, anywhere that i can see... even under the hand guards.
however, comparing it to my known, stamped stag 1/9 barrel, the twists look different. this barrel looks like the grooves are closer together. i believe its a 1/7.

1. yes it matters. i have 2 other builds i am looking to complete, and DD barrels are included in what i am considering. i want to make sure this is their product so if it sucks(which i doubt it will) i know not to buy it, and if its great, i know to move it to the top of my list.
2. not everyone has 1500 bucks to drop on a rifle. i paid 750 for the whole thing.
twist rate is no where on the barrel. i shoot 62gr and 55gr.
i appreciate the number, i will try to call tomorrow. it has been a busy week.
All the DD barrels I have seen have that "rough" phosphate finish, not a smooth black and the barrels were all marked between the extension and the gasport. Not to say their early barrels werent marked, but not having marks by now and the smooth finish makes me wonder.
