Can someone with a SR-15 measure the width past the gas block? I'm toying with the idea of making a .22lr copy of a SR-15 upper. I was all set to get a SR-15 but now I want to see what the new offerings are before I buy, but still think it would be fun to have a .22lr version. The other idea is to make a 11.5" 5.56 or 6.8 upper but I don't think I can wait that long (stamp is still 3,4,5 months out).
Here is what I have so far:

Can I ask where you got the upper? Not too many of them floating around.

From the EE. He had 2 for sale, I should have bought both. It looks new and was only a little more than a generic key hole upper.
Someone has to have a SR-15 and a pair of calipers.
I vote 5.56 upper with 11.5" barrel...build it as a pistol and wait for your Stamp to come back. My stamp goes out on 1 FEB and I won't see it back until at least July/August. It'll take me that long to just to get all of the parts together though. I plan on buying a factory KAC SR-15 SBR once the Block III's come out...but this will hold me over until that is available, I can afford it, and that stamp comes back.

I got 0.642" in front of the gas block on a taupe one. So minus whatever the thickness is of the paint.

Cool! thank you. I'm leaning more towards the .22lr version now that it appears knights will be selling SBR uppers, I'd rather have the real thing. I may still do the 11.5" in 9mm or 6.8 or something. I just have to price it out, it kind of feel like a waste using a URX on a 22.
