Why doesn't RRA offer a 1/7 twist barrel in one of their upper configurations?
I have been thinking of getting another upper in 223 in the near future and always wondered why RRA didn't offer a chromed lined 1/7 twist barrel in one of their uppers. 1/9 is fine for most applications but I have had problems with 77/75 gr ammo with one of my 1/9's so I wanted to go 1/7 for my next upper. I mainly shoot reloads (62 gr) or tracers out of my rifles so the 1/7 would be ideal for me and also give me the option to use heavy bullets if I so desire.
Anyone know why they don't offer this??
We have offered 1:7 as a substitution in the past, in all three gas system lengths...CAR, Mid, and Rifle.
Demand was pitifully low.
Part of the problem is performance with 55gr ball ammo which is, by far, the most common load on ther market today. It doesn't perform nearly as well in a 1:7 as it does in a 1:9 (which also has the benefit of stabilizing the next most common load, the 62/63gr ball).
We still run small batches )a couple hundred at a time) of 1:7s every now and then, post that we have them, and generally sell out within a few weeks. Problematically, when barrel supply is one of the primary limitting factor in shipping rifles, taking up barrel capacity for non-cataloged barrels is counter=productive.
As an exception to the "rule", our 10.5" HBAR (moly and chrome-lined) is only available in a 1:7 twist.
Thanks.

I guess I'll have to watch for one of those production runs. I not too interested in SBR in 223. I would just like a 16 inch chrome lined upper. Is there an announcement or something when you do those production runs?
Sometimes (really depends on how many barreles we're going to have) we post it on the website and sometimes we do it as a dealer-only notification.

Selling out of 1-7 within a few weeks sounds like a good thing...right?
I have a 1-7 from yous guys and it shoots the same as a 1-9 with ball ammo. And the 1-7 is chrome lined.

Well that sucks. I understand the business side and all but man I wish I would be able to get one of those, without checking back from time to time. I'm not in the market right now due to extra cash flow but it would be nice to get a 1/7.
I do know that my next upper is going to be a 1/7 twist, most likely in a 16 inch rig.
Seems like 1/8 would be a good compromise. 1/9 will not fly for HP XTC. Need 1/8.8 at a minumun to stabilize 80gr. bullets for 600 yads.

We're going to have some light weight 14.5" CL 1:7 (AR0197) within the next few weeks if you want to consider one with a pin-and-weld long flash hider or brake to get it out to 16".
