 LAR-8 charging handle v/s scope?

I finally got the chance to shoot my new to me Bushmaster LAR-8 yesterday!
Yeah I know it's not really an LAR-8 but it is a Rockriver design just made by Bushmaster.

I had zero problems shot around 60 rds, it was windy and it was getting dark and I was sighting in the Super sniper 10X scope but @ 200 yds I had a nice 5 shot 2" group (1MOA) using portuguese surplus.

Anyway what do you guys do to make it easier to grab the charging handle because my scope basically blocks access to the charging handle?

Thanks

Pick up a tactical latch and replace the stock one. I use one like this:

Tac latch isn't an option on a Bushie BAR-10/BM-308 as they had the original charging handle with the spring loaded top detent for retention. There isn't much that can be done with that particular style/ You also can't just get an LAR-8 charging handle as the original upper doesn't have the recess fo rth elatch to grab ahold of when latched.
I'll try to think of somethng. In the meantime, if any of the thousands (yes, your rifle is one of several thousand made) of BAR-10/BM-308 owners have come up with something, pleasse sound off.

I have read where some guy had machined his BAR-10 upper to accept standard style cocking handle, but I was thinking it would probably cut through the hard anodizing leaving the soft aluminum.

Would that be acceptable to do? I am a machinist so I have the milling machine to do it.

It's your rifle so you can do with it as you please, but I wouldn't recommend it.
I'm not trying to sell product when I say this, but I though about it over the weekend and the only way I see that is marginally reasonable would be to replace the upper receiver and charging handle with current product (they will work with the original carrier group, etc...).

Thanks Steve, yeah I don't want to machine on the upper, I actually don't think I want to do anything to change it from it's current configuration because it's shooting so good as is!

I got to shoot it (BAR-10) again yesterday and I moved the scope forward two spaces on the rail so I can now reach under the scope without too much difficulty and grab the charging handle.
The eye relief is perfect now so it was a win win move!

I am very impressed with this rifle as I was shooting it @ 200 yds and I was getting 1" 1/2 sized 5 shot groups using Portuguese ammo and shooting from the prone position off an ammo can with a small sand bag on top and no rear rest.
That's 3/4" MOA with milsurp ammo!!!!!
I can't imagine how it's gonna do when I work up a load for it with some 168gr SMK's!
I was thinking of maybe putting the RRA free float handguard on it, will it fit?
Would it even be able to improve upon the rifles accuracy? I never expected it to shoot this good in it's stock configuration.

The rifle ran flawlessly again using 3 different FAL mags!!!

What is it about the 308 AR's that make them more accurate than the 223 AR's?
I have 3 different 223 AR's and none have ever been this accurate.

The LAR-8 free float tube would fit...but if I was getting 3/4 MOA in stock configuration, I would probably leave it as is.
have a great Thanksgiving.
