The Practical .30 Cal. AR-15 Solution

Available now from Wilson Combat - The 7.62x40 WT (Wilson Tactical) is an all new powerful .30 caliber cartridge solution for the standard AR-15 rifle platform that is inherently accurate, low recoil and only requires one unique part - a new barrel. The 7.62x40 WT works with all other standard pattern 5.56 AR components and is completely reliable with the new Lancer® L5 AWM magazines as modified by Wilson Combat.

Ideal for Hunting and Tactical Use

The wide range of available .30 caliber hunting bullets makes the 7.62x40 WT an ideal choice for hunting of medium to large size game with the downrange ballistic performance only a .30 Caliber projectile can deliver. Experienced shooters will be pleased by the match grade accuracy and terminal effectiveness and energy easily exceeding the 7.62x39 Russian, while novice shooters will appreciate the mild recoil and low report.
Tactical shooters looking for a hard hitting, fast handling, practical .30 Caliber AR-15 service carbine will find the 7.62x40 WT a viable alternative to the 5.56x45 for self defense and law enforcement applications. With 18/19 or 28/29 round capacity using Wilson Combat modified Lancer® L5 AWM 5.56 magazines, maximum firepower is retained.

Components, Loaded Ammunition and Complete Guns

The 7.62x40 WT cartridge is based on a standard Lake City 5.56x45 NATO/.223 cartridge case that goes through a simple shortening and reforming operation to achieve appropriate cartridge dimensions. Wilson Combat has reloading dies, case gages, cartridge cases, handload data and a variety of loaded ammunition to fully support this caliber.

A complete lineup of Wilson Combat 7.62x40 WT rifles, uppers and match-grade barrels are also available now.

I sent an email to sales. There was an error on your site and I requested some info. This round has me pretty excited to try it out. Unfortunately I just bought a 6.8 upper that I just may part out to fund a 20" non-threaded barrel.

ETA: How well does this round feed from a 20rd PMAG?

nightdh,
The 762x40WT with typically work through unmodified standard AR15 5.56 mags to about half capacity. So your 20 round Pmags would be fine up to 10 or so rounds. For ultimate reliability to full capacity, we recommend using our modified Lancer Mags, available Here

Wilson Combat,

Thought the barrels were stock. Am I mistaken?

I ordered 1pc of the "Match Grade Barrel, 7.62x40 WT, Tactical Hunter, 18", Stainless Stainless, Bead Blast, Bolt Carrier Assembly Item: TR-762RC18 BLT back on 3/31 (7.62x40WT 'opening day) and thought it would ship shortly. I asked customer service and they said 3 weeks. Then, I confirmed with customer service the beginning of the 3rd week and they said that was still a good 'estimate.'

Then, when I asked for a tracking number, they told me 2 additional weeks. I'm ok with that, but would just like to know the whole story.

Oh, the ammo, dies, case gauge, magazines, etc. all arrived in a very timely manner. Just waiting on the barrel.

Thanks,
8654

8654,
I have an inquiry being traced on your order, and those particular barrels being run now, and someone from customer service should be contacting your via email today. Sorry for the delay, I thought all of the barrels that were initially ordered had been shipped also, but it appears the 18" barrels were the most in demand. Thanks for your patience.

so , for those of us on a tight budget, does Wilson Combat do barrel chambering?
I've got a .300 Whisper barrel that I'd like to convert, and no one seems to have this reamer for rent.

Just looking on the site and almost all the 7.62x40WT barrels are gone and most the ones still listed have a status of "no longer available"

This got me wondering, are you guys discontinuing this round already or just getting a new run a barrels shortly?

*Never mind, if you go to the 7.62x40WT barrels through the rifle accessories route they are all still listed*

I'm not going to lie, I had a mini heart attack as I just suggested to my wife parts to build one of these for Christmas

So why did you introduce a new caliber/chamber, instead of chambering .300 Blackout/Whisper?
WilsonCombatRep  [Industry Partner]
12/20/2011 10:42:07 AM
We have barrels in 300BLK, and build carbines in that chambering. W played with the 300BLK for quite a while last year, and while it does some things very well, we wanted to improve its supersonice performance. We feel that there is a significant number of people in the market out there that are not concerned with shooting subsonic, and want better supersonic performance for general use. The 762x40WT answers this need( it gives you another 100-150fps). If you are interested in shooting subsonic-suppressed, the 300BLK is a great option.
