Good service and a fine product from PSA

I placed an order with PSA for a forged light weight 16" middy and a bolt carrier group on 2/19. The nice man in the brown truck just dropped it off a few hours ago. The wait was a little rough, I had put off this build for too long. I place the blame solely on my girlfriend who STOLE errr "adopted" my 6920 (proof I love you honey...) as her own and leaving me in need of completing this build. But good things come to those who wait, right?

When I opened the box and was very pleased to find a charging handle with my order. Things like that go a long way with me, and thats one of the reasons why I'm typing this. Good service should be recognized and rewarded. Thank you PSA.

During my inspection of the upper I noticed the orange zip tie in the chamber had broken and there were several little pieces of it in the chamber area. A few minutes with a cleaning rod got all of it out, no big deal.

PSA upper is on the right, 6920 to the left.

There was no play between this upper and my rock river lower. While I'm not a huge cosmetic guy (my carbines spend their lives bouncing around my truck, traveling all over, and getting the piss shot out of them in courses) the quality of the finish will probably make me feel a little bad when it gets dinged for the first time.

I think the light weight profile balances for me better than my 6920 and the longer hand guard makes all the difference in the world for me. I feel more comfortable behind this gun than my 6920, hopefully this will show up in my performance. Anyways, I tossed on some basic accessories, grabbed my crap and headed for the range for a test drive.

A nice quiet day at the range makes any day better. The nearest B-27 is at 50 yards, the last berm has another B-27 in front of it at 200 yards. I slow fired 30 rounds in strings of 5 at the 50 yard B-27 just to confirm things and get a feel for the new lower. Everything was working fine and right where it should be so i moved on to the 200 yard target. My point of aim was where the neck meets the torso. I find that it's a better reference point for zeroing with irons on a B-27 type target. This was my first five round group at 200 yards. Please forgive the flier, that was all me.

I was shooting some of my SS109 loads that I've had good luck with in the past. This group is quite a bit tighter than what I'm used to seeing with my 6920 with either my BUIS or my T1 at that distance. I'm pretty damn happy with that. Hell, I chuckled all the way back to the bench. I only fired 60 rounds today, Ive got a ways to go testing the new carbine before I will feel comfortable using it for protection, but I like what I'm seeing so far. Especially for the price. I spent $1300 on my 6920, and around $750 on the new carbine. Bottom line, I'd buy another, and I'd tell a friend to take a long look at PSA as well.

Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with PSA or any other firearms related company beyond forking over my hard earned dollars to those who I feel make a product that meets my needs and specifications.

How long did you have to wait? Thinking about placing an order for a rifle kit in the next few days.

+1

I'm jealous. When I move to Phoenix AZ I will be able to go shooting outdoors without belonging to a gun club!

Nice range, and very nice gun. My 14.7 hammer forged PSA upper should be here within the next 15 days.

The OP said the order was placed on 2/19, so just over two weeks. Not too terrible really.
