Poll: ACR owners: Do you lubricate your ACR or run it completely dry without any lubrication?
I'm wondering what people are REALLY doing with their ACR's.
Are you guys running them bone dry without any lubrication anywhere OR are you putting a drop of oil here and there for good measure?
For those of you who ARE lubing your ACR, what are your lubrication points? Anything on the piston system or just the rails, bcg / bolt?
I did lube the extractor.
I run some on the bolt carrier, the Barrel nut, and in the charging handle slot.
Just a drop or 2 of Slip 2kEWL.

I ran mine completely dry yesterday for it's first range session and had zero malfunctions with over 200 rds down range.
I'm not too comfortable ( yet ) with the idea of running this weapon bone dry without any lubrication on a regular basis.
i usually run mine dry, once in a rare while i clean it and lube the bolt some, but supposedly the internals are melonite coated also

This...
Bone dry, and even wiped down really well to dry up the excess oil when I clean it so it doesn't get gunky my while shooting suppressed
Never had a single malfunction post-recall nor any FTEs... Just remembering to switch to the suppressed piston setting is slipping past me on occasion

Bacon is always a popular choice :)
I vote yes. BUT
I oil everything generously and then wipe it all down using a clean Flour Sack Cloth. It soaks up most oil and leaves a little residual oil. So its a little damp.
My ACR is clean but generally up under the extractor is a bunch of brass shavings, makes me wonder.
Anybody Else seeing this.
I wont be shooting for a while so I wont be able to get any pictures. But if you could post some pics and see if mine looks like yours after about 200 rounds.
I've got about 400 rounds through mine... bone ass dry and suppressed for about 350 of them. I'll continue shooting
it suppressed and unsupressed without lube until it chokes, just to see how long it takes. FWIW, I'm also on a kick
of not oiling my pistols until they choke.... nothing has choked, yet. I don't shoot alot though, so this may take a
while!

Well, I decided to break down the weapon and oil it in a few spots. I put a drop on each CH rail, a drop in each of the rail channels on the BCG and a light smear on the bolt neck and cam pin then wiped off any excess.
I KNOW it will run bone dry ( and VERY clean that way ) because I tested it, I just feel better with it lightly oiled and it glides smoother as well.
As far as the extractor, I have not disassembled it yet, just lubed it. I will tear it down after my next range trip and post up my findings for you.
Here is the extractor disassembled after 400-500 rds.

Uh Thats weird. After 200 rounds under the Extractor the bolt extractor area looks like somebody shaved a bar of gold. Very weird.

Hmmm, IDK.Gold deposits would be nice but it's probably brass

.
Maybe that's a good thread topic to start, see if it's a common thing or if you are having an issue.
Yes, lube it. It is a machine with moving parts that creates heat and friction.
Very light lubrication on the sliding/bearing surfaces of the bolt carrier and bolt.
I've been very impressed with how clean this weapon has been after shooting.

Which is funny because die hard direct impingement guys that shun piston based guns insist that piston guns are just as dirty.

What's your take on it?

Generally speaking, they shoot much cleaner where the bolt, bolt carrier, and upper receiver is involved. Those guys don't have a fucking clue what they are talking about.

FTW, my thoughts exactly.
I lightly sprayed my BCG (didn't disassemble it or anything, just pulled the BCG out and lightly sprayed it) with Rem Oil before I shot mine for the first time the other day. Worked fine and came out pretty darn clean after 240 rds.
I too had what I thought was a large amount of brass shavings in the extractor cut-out on the bolt. Hmph. Ought to be interesting to follow up on in the future.
CeeDub
What round do you use to shoot.
I have only shot through my ACR is IMI M855. Have shot 1100 rounds of a case of 1200 though the gun.
I was using Federal XM193...
