Bushmaster 14.5 Pinned or not pinned - How do you tell if its legal
I recently aquired a 14.5 busy upper with YHM phantom, it measures 16 1/4 inches long, measuring by dropping a dowl in the barrel and measuring the length. How do I tell if this rifle is pinned and BATF legal, I have read and heard mixed things. I have tried calling bushmaster but got tired of sitting on hold for an hour. Can you reference model number....etc. Just want to be certain I am legal. I won't be removing the flash hider for any reason, and I don't have an interest in having to get a stamp. Any advice would be appreciated
If it is pinned you should see the head of the pin (usually on the bottom) or possibly where the pin was welded over and then profiled to match the device. Another method of permanent attachment was a silver solder of certain spec. Sometimes you'll be able to see the bead of solder at the base of the device but not necessarily so.
If you want ultimate peace of mind then get hold of someone like Adco or send it back to Bushy to verify it. If you try to unscrew it and it is permanent you could really tweak the barrel.
I hate ink blot test's...
