I have a flat top AR with the standard front sight on it. I bought a crossfire 3-9 and am wondering how high the mount/rings need to be to keep the front sight out of the way.

If you mount the scope high enough to clear the front sight then your cheek weld is going to be uncomfortably high. However, most likely you aren't going to really see the front sight because it's so close to the objective lens it will be way out of focus. You might see a slight blur of it at 3x, but I doubt you'll be able to see it at 9x. If it still bothers you the only real alternative is to get a folding front sight.
