New or reconditioned StrikeFire?
I researched the StrikeFire and saw that the only real complaint anyone had was that the on/off button was in the side making it easy to accidentally turn on and off. After further checking, I saw that the location of the On/Off button was moved to the top. So I ordered one from Optics Planet last week when they finally got them in stock. Was really excited to get my new StrikeFire. Well I got it, after opening it up, I was very disappointed to find an old model with the On/Off on the side . The picture on the Optics Planet web site, the pic on the box it came in, and the instruction manual all had a picture of the new model with the ON/OFF on the top. So, whats the deal?
all strikefires have the power button on the side, the newer ones to be released this spring have that power button recessed. You did get a current model strikefire. If the power button gives you issues about tunring itself on in your case, rotate the strikefire 90 degress counter clock wise in the mount putting the power button on the bottom
acutally I think the original models had the power button on top, but none of the newer ones do, I am sure sam will chime in to confirm this

Yes, that is the case. Only the first run had the power button on top, but it created production problems and delayed shipments, so we moved it to the side after that. The models with the side mounted power button have several improvements over the ones with the top mounted power button, including: better electronics, threading on the objective for an ARD, more tactile button feel, and better coating on the lenses for a brighter dot.
As suggested earlier you can rotate the sight 90 degrees CCW, which will put the control module on the bottom and that protects the power switch, so that is one option. Later this spring we will be upgrading them to have a recessed power button so it is less prone to accidentally hitting it.
I hope this helps. If you have any other questions just let me know. Thank you!

Thanks for the response.

Won't rotating the sight 90 degrees affect the function of the elevation and windage adjustments?

Yes, your windage becomes the elevation and the elevation becomes a left side windage.

I have to take the battery out of it befor i put the rifle in the case. My first optic was a vortex, and I like it. It preforms well compaired to my aimpoints. But because the sight will turn on when I case the weapon, I will probably replace it.
I figured this was a good thead to ask my question since I didn't want to start a whole new thread for this.
I'm looking to get rid of the flip caps does Vortex make see through type deal to replace the flip caps? If not are there any you recommend?

We don't make any see through flip caps. Butler Creek makes some that they call the Blizzard Scope Covers that might work, so I would check those out.
