I ordered what I thought was a regular ole AR50 (from Ellett Bros.) to put in my showroom... and received an AR50A1.

I didn't realize there was a difference... and wondered exactly what changes/improvements were made ?

The 50A1 has improvements over the 50B as shown below.

New receiver/barrel stamps

New serial number range

New geometry bolt head/receiver lugs

New bolt stop

Improved bolt sleeve

Adjustable length of pull

Tim, is this Hogue grip specific to the AR50 or will an M15/AR10 Hogue grip fit?

I can answer that question.

The grips are all the same.

Only difference is... the Armalite supplied Hogue grip has the Armalite logo on it.

Just saying - I have an AR50A1 that was brand new in the box.

It did NOT have a Hogue grip. Just a plain old A2 on her.

That's 'kinda funny... since I actually ordered an Armalite/Hogue grip specifically for mine, expecting the typical A2 grip. I was happy to see the Hogue grip already on the gun... and just put the extra one on my Armalite SBR instead.

I imagine there is probably a date and serial number range at which they went to the Hogue grips being standard on the AR50.

Which brings another question for Armalite.

Do the new AR30's come equipped with a Hogue grip now too ? I was thinking about ordering one in .300WM next.

I do not know the date range or the serial number range... but the older AR30's and AR50's have the older style A2 pistol grip on them that were actually rounded off to fit the old style grip frame. The newer design will take a regular pistol grip with no modifications.

Yes we put the ArmaLite logo Hogue grips on our AR-30 as well now.

When did Armalite start making the new AR-50A1?

We started making the 50A1 approximately in the beginning of 2008 if I recall correctly.
