 Awesome prices but...

Awesome ammo prices but why don't you guys do fixed rate shipping?

$47.00 shipping is too much for just one case of ammo which kills your deals.

It's tough to do fixed rate shipping on ammo due to its weight. Shipping could be $12 for a case going 1 state over or $40 going across the country. I've shipped ammo plenty and have seen the huge swings.

I think my last couple orders from AIM of 2k .223 each, shipping was like $33.

$47 does seem pretty high. Where do you live, Alaska?

I was going to order 3 cases of federal 00-buck and shipping was $32. I live in Ohio too!

its a plug in guys, we don't figure the shipping, ups does.

our website keeps a weight total, when you get a shipping quote it takes the weight of the package, and uses your zip, it sends that info to UPSs website in a split second, to come up with the shipping charge.

so for example, a case of .308 weighs about 60lbs, ups charges $21.21 to Ohio, BUT, UPS charges $58.98 to California

so i could flat rate it and say I will charge you $40 in CA, but that means the guy in Ohio is overpaying his shipping, so he won't order it from me.

so my plan is to sell ammo and a good rate, and let everybody pay their UPS rate, if you are East of the Mississippi that works out well but its tough on the West coast guys.

we are working on getting a better deal on the website for large orders though, that should help some

don't do 3, you are not maximizing your $ per lb, because of the weight, it takes two packages for 3 cans.
order two or four, it brings your cost per can down compared to 3

Thanks for working on it. I've been to your website probably 10 times in the last several years looking to place a big order, but changed my mind after seeing what the shipping would be. Colorado, FWIW.

Ouch... AIM has great deals come on man! Give a brotha a break.

I would say, why don't you offer flat rate and UPS? That way the long range dudes like me (WA) have multiple options and can try calculating shipping a few times to find your best deal.

If you're talking USPS flat rate, it's illegal to ship ammo through USPS.

if we offered both flat rate and actual, the west coast guys would only choose flat rate, and the east coast guys would only choose actual, so it wouldn't balance out. to do flat rate somebody must buy more shipping so somebody can pay less

That sounds like... COMMUNISM!

Flat rate overcharges those geographically closest to you and undercharges those geographically further away.

It's kinda like redistributing the wealth––SOCIALISM!

ETA: It would cost us $9.55 to ship an empty box to a house 500ft down the road.

Slight thread high jackbut what do the Feds have to say about transporting ammo across state lines in a vehicle... Reason I ask is that I have family in OH that I vist every year or so and am potentially going to see them in may, thinking stop by buy what I want and drive the shit home with me don't mind the sales tax piece too much

I really like actual shipping.

A competitor of AIM is less than 120 miles from me. They charge a flat fee for parts and a flat fee for ammo. I bought 2 boxes of 38 special and 2 MBUS sights from them before I realized how that worked. Got hit with $19 in shipping. I complained and they agreed to charge me actual shipping for just that one order. Less than $8. I don't order from them anymore. Unless its one item or the other. If they charged actual they would get more of my business. Even though their prices are competetive with AIM and they are 400 miles closer, AIM's shipping is usually cheaper.

I don't mind paying what it ACTUALLY costs the company to ship whatever I am buying. I buy alot from AIM and other vendors here and I do shop around. Most of the time AIM is my fix.

Don't you need a FOID card or something like that to buy in IL? State regulations.... that would probably be the hinderance. Don't think there is anything federal.

I know I talked with Wideners about the same thing when my parents were in Tennessee on a vacation. Lady there figured up my order and shipping was about $10 cheaper than paying TN sales tax. Guess what...I ordered and had it shipped.

you can come here and buy ammo Wednesday and Friday, just show us your FOID and take it home to IL

Federally, the law is pretty silent about it.

Flart rate shipping is like the automotive "destination charge". If there wasnt a flat rate destination charge the people that lived close to a car factory would pay a small amount and people far away would pay a lot. It works in automotive since the cost of the car is very high.

I'd rather pay actual shipping, but that's just me.

Nothing I hate more than seeing a shipping charge of $17.92 for a buffer spring and a retainer that have been shoved into an envelope.

I just paid $55 for 500 rounds of .308, 420 rounds of 5.56 in an ammo can, and 1000 rounds of 7.62x39

At $615 total, I don't think thats very bad.

I look at the total price. They could charge $500 for shipping, but if its still cheaper than the other guy who am I to bitch?

I averaged $31 a case for 3,000 rounds of 7.62X39 ammunition. Good enough, but only because it was $189.99 per 1K.

Honestly: AIM has kick-butt pricing, my hat is off to them. But I live in MT and shipping this far out suuuuuucks. I like AIM, bought a bunch of .50 ammo off them. But I try and find places west of the Mississippi when I'm ordering ammo.

As for "flat rate". Look at places like Copes that offer that. Their 880 rounds of 54R are priced high enough to make up for that price differance Not bad deals, but everything averages out in the end.

I have the best situation I guess..

I live within 40 min. but it is just across the river in KY

so close but no tax.......

usually tax or shipping on a case is the same

so I let them bring it to me

so how does PSA ship their ammo to CA for $12?
Bryan_Aim  [Industry Partner]
1/26/2012 12:57:25 PM
different product, notice they sell mostly new ammo, no surplus 7.62x54R, no surplus 5.45, no surplus 7.5 french, no wolf .223, no Yugo 7.62x39, all small margin items don't work under that pricing schedule. If they have 7.62x39 its usually is about $20 more than ours, it helps to cover shipping.
but on the stuff thats the exact same price, it would be cheaper out west to buy it from them.

ammoman gives free shipping on all ammo, if i was on the west coast i would get it from him, for that business model to work, you need a bunch of east coast guys to buy it also to pay the shipping for the west coast guys
