 OPS-CORE Base Jump

A question for Vic and crew...I've saved my pennies and settled on the monocular I want. Now I've started looking at helmet setups.

Any word on the new OPS-CORE Base Jump models?

They look like a good value for those of us who don't need ballistic protection. The price of a comparable bump helmet and a decent screw-on shroud (PT-Alpha $80 + Norotos 3 Hole shroud $190) is more than the projected price of the Base Jump US mil models. If the molded in shroud is sturdy enough it seems like a simple solution. Edit: It looks like the split chin straps on the military models will secure a front heavy NV setup better than the single strap on the sports model.

Since you guys already carry OPS-CORE products, I thought you might have some info, or maybe even had the opportunity to handle/see some. Any opinions on the helmet? Any word on when they will be available? Is this something we might be able to buy in the TNVC store in the near future?

Yes, we handled at them at great length at Shot Show and a few times after. We will be carrying this model. Our only concern (most know us to give honest feedback of everything) is the molded into the helmet shroud aspect. While incredibly tough, if ever damaged, you basically have just ruined the entire helmet and a whole replacement would be necessary. Obviously the helmet will be a tough one and the mil model chin harness is above and beyond the standard issue 4pt systems out there that bring the rigidity to the back of ones head and nape instead of down toward your nose. More to come. Thank you.

Thanks Vic.

The molded-in shroud breaking was my primary concern as well.

Look forward to hearing more about them once you guys get some in.

If it did break, one could always dremmel the remaining shroud off and then just mount a traditional bolt on mount. I wonder what OPS CORE's warranty is on a part like that (built in shroud)?

Happened by this thread tonight, thought I'd chime in that the Basejump is a really good helmet, and a great value as compared to putting together a PT with all the features it would take to make an apples-to-apples comparison.

You can get these easily dialed in so there's almost no play at all, even with relatively heavy items mounted to them. Between the easily interchangable pads to take up excess wiggle-room between the shell and your head (they include two sets for proper sizing) and the OCC-Dial, I can tug on the light or whatever I've got ARC'd to the sides, and it barely moves. I didn't have any small IR lights handy to try it out with, so immediately pic-rail-adaptered a Surefire M620V to the ARC, and while that's really a weapon light that would normally be considerd large enough to seem lopsided, I really didn't feel the helmet tugging down on that side.
One thing I was concerned about was if it would work with only highspeed low profile earmuffs, but I grabbed the biggest pair of Peltor low-speed/high-drag muffs, and the helmet didn't rub on them or push them down at all. Fit very nicely with all brands and sizes of muffs I tried it with.

As to the earlier warranty question, the FAST helmet warranty card that came with it says "the shell is warranted for (5) years from date of purchase against material defects and/or faulty worksmanship." I don't know if that's applicable to the Basejump or if it's only for the other FAST models, as to be clear - this warranty card was in with the bag of extra pads, not in with the helmet itself - I'd wait to see the official OPS Core party line on this as well as whatever packaging they end up actually shipping these helmets with.

The OPS Core Basejump really does look like it's going to be a great brain bucket though –– I'm sure a lot of these will be popping up as it offers some great options at a very fair price.

Thanks for the comments Kel.

We just got a couple in, they look and perform MUCH better than what we saw at Shot. Clasky will be getting his (maybe ) in a few days. More to follow....

I'm waiting for these to hit the public. I'm very interested as my PT Alpha sits just a little weird on my head, and the fast bump I tried that a friend of mine has fits like a glove.

Glad you guys are up and running on them now!

I didn't want to post any photos of mine until I knew they were really shipping...

Here's a fast-and-dirty snapshot of my OPS CORE Basejump rig, with a Wilcox G24 (available at TNVC) and Wilcox J-Arm, and probably a bit of overkill on the head-mounted light choice (will be switching to something less blinding and smaller soon for the helmet, and putting the Surefire back on the carbine where it belongs... it's all I had for IR at the time-being, and the greenbeam DBAL took care of the gun side of things):

Kel
