What is the shelf life of a PVS-14?
I know that the tube life of a PVS-14 is 10,000 hrs or more but what is the shelf life of a new unit that is only used occasionally? Is the unit still good if it is stored for years?

Indefinite shelf life, but I would always remove the batteries when stored as well. Also, with that said, ITT also recommends powering up the unit once a month or so to (for 5-10minutes) to insure there are no power surges when first powering the units after a long power off duration. This is just a precaution. Hope this helps.

What are the requirements for purging when is it a good idea or even required to have it refilled?
For Civvy use I would say once every two years is fine. The Military specs for a AVS-9 say every 6 months. Between one and two years with two being the max. This is my opinion, Many people say to do it once a year. More often will never hurt.
Can someones explain "purging" and why it's necessary? Newb here.
the tube is nitrogen filled, as nitrogen is dry with no h2o same as quality rifle scopes. to prevent rusting and fogging ect. For one reason or another it is drained and filled with fresh nitrogen periodically.
Where exactly would you get that done?

+1, what ballpark are we looking at for proper maintenance of a PVS14?
$50-100 based on the work usually.
