This might be a dumb question, but I will ask anyways; I have a pof upper and I plan on using this to clean my BCG, charging handle if need be,bolt assembly, firing pin, retaining pin, and other small item stuff i can fit it in.
So, some of these have special coatings and what not, could these sonic cleaners ruin those protective coatings (pof np3 coating, lwrci nickel coating) and other types of coatings?
Do any of you guys use these type of products? If so, what do you guys think?

Here's a link of what i may get:

You would be just as effective with a 30cal can and your favorite cleaner putting it in the trunk of your car for vibration for a few days of driving. I do it for my suppressors. Hey, the price is right.

I have the harbor fright sonic cleaner and it works great. I leave it filled up all the time. I use the heat and cycle everything through it twice(two cycles) I've been told that you need to be careful with aluminum parts and the type of cleaner you use as there may be aluminum pitting with some cleaners. I use M-pro 7, it's kind of expensive but works well and is recommended for ultrasonic cleaners.

LOL! Maybe if I had a sports car i would take it to a track. That should do the trick. Give it a try and let us know.

Cool, i'm thinking going to harbor freight and picking one up tomorrow.
What AR parts do you use for the sonic cleaner? I assume you have a pof?

What M pro7 product do you use? Do you use m pro7 and mix it with water to?

I thought about using dish washing soap to save some money. May not work as well as m pro, but I figure with the NP3 coating on the BCG, it should do the job!

How does the heat cycle work? Is there a temp control? Do you change the cleaning solution every time or every other time?

I use it on all my AR, AK and Handgun parts that fit. Mainly BCG's and magazines what ever fits. I use the M Pro 7 straight no water mixed in, I use the regular "gun cleaner". Also you might as well get the gallon the smaller sizes wont fill the cleaner tub and it will last for a while. The POF parts clean up real easy compared to my AR and AK parts. The heat is either on or off, I'm not sure what the temperature is, but I'd say it's like hot tub water. I just leave the cleaner in the tub until it's really dirty. I haven't changed it yet but may need to soon as I used it to clean cosmoline off a "new" AK. I figure I'll change it when I clean the PSL I picked up.
By the way I'd get on Harbor Freights email list if you aren't already and they send coupons out every few weeks. I used a 15% or 20% off one when I bought it.

When you clean your ar parts (bcg, piston parts or charging handle) do you have to separate them by using a glass jar or can you spread them out? Is there any danger to the metal if they are to close together?

I just throw them in there. I use WD40.

Don't use WD40.

Just toss them in there and spread them out. Tthey don't move around too much if at all. There is a plastic grate that aids in keeping the parts in place and off of the bottom.

Oh man you almost got me there. I was going to do it. I was that close. Hell I was going to use some acid as well to help clean it better.

With the special coatings that a POF has, is it really necessary to use a sonic cleaner? I just use a paper towel and it cleans really well in about 15 minutes...

Not all of the parts are coated in np3 coating. Plus, it take some of the elbow grease out. I'm lazy, so this is a nice touch to clean the smaller parts.
