I assume you mean would it be possible to modify a POF upper to fit on a CMMG G3 lower...if so:

Possible...Yes.

Practical...No.

The CMMG G3 lower requires that you "modify" the upper receiver. By modify...I mean you will have to mill out your upper to make room for the G3 mag which is wider and has much different feed lips than your standard DPMS 308 mag. While not a ton of material has to be removed, permanently modifying an expensive, NP3 coated POF-308 upper receiver is NOT what I would call a good idea! If, God forbid, it gets screwed up...you have voided any claim to a warranty replacement, and you won't just be able to squeeze an upper receiver from POF, which means you are out another $2k or so for a complete barreled upper receiver.

If you do it...be sure to post pics so that the rest of us can cringe (and oooh and aaahh).

Good luck,
ORD out...

I've thought quite a bit about doing the exact same thing.

I live in NY state (for now), and we still live under a state-level version of the old federal AWB. I can't own a new .308 POF without first having the flash hider removed and the stock switched out to a non-adjustable model. Even after going through that trouble, I'd be left with a semi-auto .308 that feeds from 10-rd mags (kind of a waste).

So my approach would be to purchase the upper seperately and have the muzzle device taken care of (possibly locally). Then I'd purchase a CMMG lower that accepts G3 mags (so that my rifle could feed from cheap, reliable, high-capacity pre-ban magazines) and throw an A2 stock on. Then I'd do some research and find a very reputable and experienced gunsmithing firm (anywhere in the US) that would be willing to properly mill my upper to accept the G3 mags and ship them my rifle.

Yes, the coating on the inside of the rifle would be missing in the areas that were milled. Hopefully, this would leave a nice, crips edge that wouldn't be prone to further finish loss (cracking, flaking, etc.). If I noticed any of that, I'd simply ship the upper out to have the inside re-coated.

Yes, it would be a pain in the ass. But I'm used to it being that way here.

Anyway, onceI move, this crap will all be behind me...

I wonder if the POF upper would fit the SI defense of CMMG G3 lower?

If the mate up, then the issue would be modification of the upper to fit the G3 mags.
