I bought one of these 2nd hand, like new.

I like it but want to know what can be done to tighten it up? The upper section has fore & aft movement, not loose enough to rattle but it moves freely a bit.

I shimmed the upper hand guard with a piece of electrical tape (at the front hand guard cap) and it snugs up well now but the front end cap touches the barrel.

This is on a DD 14.5 M4 upper w/perm flash hider

At closer look it doesn't physically touch. It clicked in father and now there is gap all around but it has looseness again. Not very loose, just enough to be nudged back and forth by hand. Maybe another piece of electrical tape should wedge it beyond moving.

Any other tips on making it fit tighter?

It's a Daniel Defense upper with a pinned 14.5 M4 barrel.

Troy, not trying to ignore you... busy weekend and to my best recollection there wasn't any play in the hand guard cap. Haven't had a chance to remove the hand guard as of yet. The fit, after playing with it, is okay, surprisingly there is no perceivable movement in the lower portion of the rail, although I haven't tried a vfg yet.

The worst thing is that I'd need to add one more strip of electrical tape to shim it tight. It doesn't rock side to side, doesn't clock either direction, just has fore to aft movement and it probably wouldn't affect anything If I let it be.

Is electrical tape the wisest material to shim it with? I know there's a lot of heat at the FSB. That's the question for me. I once found a link where people discussed tightening up drop in hand guards but I can't find where I saved it. I even recall someone putting a blob of J/B Weld or epoxy at the end of the hand guard to tighten things up.
