Just picked up a new CMMG MK-3, and I was wondering about breaking it in. I am under the assumption it is Chrome-Lined, so what kind of "breaking-in" pattern should I follow? Shoot once, clean bore, etc

Thanks for your help!!!

There are several different barrels on the mark 3s that are out there. If it is the SASS version, it will be WASP coated, which requires minimal of any barrel break-in procedure.

WASP coated:
probably clean it for the first 5 or so and that's GTG

If it is a stainless steel barrel, less is needed...

SS:
1 shot, clean x 5
3 shots, clean x 1
5 shots, clean
Done

Chrome lined, yeah. Do a break-in period of about one mag or like 25 rounds, cleaninig after each round, then fire triples and clean after each triple, 5 shots, clean it, and you're GTG

Chrome:
1 shot, clean x 25
3 shots, clean x 3
5 shots, clean
Done

I don't believe any crazy break in procedure is necessary. Is there any scientific evidence to show that such a procedure is necessary?

I don't like to clean my rifles to the nth degree because I think over cleaning does more harm than anything. I have handled M16 bolts that were silver from being scrubbed. I didn't know the bcg was supposed to be black until I got my first ar.

I say just shoot it. I see no benefit from an insane "break in" and probably more harm by over cleaning.

Well it's just a matter of running a bore snake through it...to catch any debris before the next round jams it into the rifling and drags it out by its ear.

This. "Breaking in" a barrel is just a waste of time. Go shoot it.

That's pretty much what I did. 3 shots to zero at 25 yds, then clean. 1 shot at 100 yds...6 in high, 1 in to right. Next adjustment was 1 inch/3 shot pattern at 100 yds...dead on...then clean. 3 shots groups then clean. Will do this for a little while...but that first shot after clean is a little off. Next 2-3 shots almost touching. Can't beat Hornady Match 168 gr BTHP!

BTW, I have an SST barrel. Forgot to mention that.
